The relationship of the left atrial border imioveiiicits to underlying pressure and volume changes was investigated in individual human subjects with proved initral insufficiency. Based on thetse observations, criteria for the recognition of hemodynamically significant mitral insufficiency have been revised. Special emphasis is placed on a rapid inward mllovement of the atrial wall during the p...

Quadricuspid aortic valve is a rare cause of aortic insufficiency. We report two unusual cases of this valvular pathology associated with a dilatation of the aortic root. The mechanism leading to this valve incompetence is incompletely understood and is discussed in regard to these cases.

The hemodynamic consequences of cardiac arrhythmias depend on various factors, including the ventricular rate and the duration of the abnormal rate, the temporal relationship between atrial and ventricular activity, the sequence of ventricular activation, the functional state of the heart, the irregularity of the cycle length, associated drug therapy, the peripheral vascular vasomotor system, d...

The following paper (lescribes the results of electrokymographic studies performed on patients vith l)roved aortic insufficiency. Alterations in the shape of the aortic ejection curve were found and were accompanied by a diminution or absence of the incisura in the presence of insufficiency of the aortic valves. Alterations in heart border motion of the ventricles Xwere also found. The possible...

T he recognition, quantification, and follow-up of valvular regurgitation is a long-standing clinical problem. While many ways to evaluate the severity of valvular insufficiency have been tried, none allows precise quantification of regurgitant volume, much less of the severity of the lesion's effect on the cardiovascular system and the patient.' Invasive angiography is the traditional and most...

Repair of aortico--left ventricular tunnel was accomplished for the first time in the neonatal period. The diagnosis was made with two-dimensional echocardiography. Repair was accomplished using an open-patch aortoplasty technique, which prevented valvular insufficiency, a significant problem in older patients in whom the repair has been attempted.
