We theoretically study channel plasmon-polaritons (CPPs) with a geometry similar to that in recent experiments at telecom wavelengths (Bozhevolnyi et al., Nature 440, 508 (2006)). The CPP modal shape, dispersion relation, and losses are simulated using the multiple multipole method and the finite difference time domain technique. It is shown that, with the increase of the wavelength, the fundam...

In this paper, a method is presented for modeling sound propagation in rooms using a signal processing approach. Low order digital filters are designed to match to sound propagation transfer functions calculated from boundary material and air absorption data. The technique is applied to low frequency, finite difference time domain (FDTD) simulation of room acoustics and to real-time image-sourc...

Numerical simulation provides a effective tool for studying both the spatial and temporal nature of acoustic field on 3D or 4D timespace. The paper deals with the description of discrete exterior calculus scheme for the wave equation. This method can be directly implemented on manifold, which is the generation of finite difference time domain method from flat space to curved space.

A competitive neural network (NN) learned by the OLVQ1algorithm has the potential to produce images for land cover mapping. We propose an extended OLVQ1 that adds learning ratios to the originalalgorithm. Applying it to SPOT XS data, we show that higher mappingaccuracies can be obtained compared to those of conventional methods.

We consider the Bresse system with frictional dissipative terms acting in all the equations. We show the exponential decay of the solution by using a method developed by Z. Liu and S. Zheng and their collaborators in past years. The numerical computations were made by using the finite difference method to prove the theoretical results. In particular, the finite difference method in our case is ...

In this paper, four channel demultiplexer is designed using two-dimensional photonic crystal for Coarse Wavelength Division Multiplexing applications. The proposed demultiplexer consists of bus wave guide, output wave guide and a cavity. The channel selection is done by having a cavity with unique refractive index. The two dimensional finite difference time domain and plane wave expansion metho...

An explicit spectrally accurate order-adaptive Hermite-Taylor method for the Schrödinger equation is developed. Numerical experiments illustrating the properties of the method are presented. The method, which is able to use very coarse grids while still retaining high accuracy, compares favorably to an existing exponential integrator high order summation-by-parts finite difference method.

The vibration of an elastic beam experiencing vortex-induced vibration is numerically analyzed through a wake-oscillator model using the finite differences method. The influence of the excited mode, the initial velocity, the shedding pulsation and the mass ratio on the energy transfer among modes and the vibration amplitude is determined. Multiple frequencies are detected, and the power spectra...

1. Abstract: This paper describes a conformal Finite Difference Time Domain (FDTD) software package and presents its applications to RF antennas and mcrostrip circuit components. The program includes a Visual Basic GUI for graphically inputting the object geometries, setting source and boundary conditions, generating a non-uniform mesh, and post processing of the data. A robust Conformal Finite...

Effects of wall material on the channel capacity of an indoor multiple input multiple output (MIMO) system are investigated using a hybrid technique of the method of moments (MoM) and the finite difference time domain (FDTD) method with consideration of the Ricean K factor and the effective degrees of freedom (EDOF) of multiple paths. key words: MIMO, channel capacity, indoor channel, hybrid me...
