When multiple microphones are available estimates of inter-channel delay, which characterise a speaker’s location, can be used as features for speaker diarization. Background noise and reverberation can, however, lead to noisy features and poor performance. To ameliorate these problems, this paper presents a new approach to the discriminant analysis of delay features for speaker diarization. Th...

A study of speaker-distinguishing properties of the formant dynamics of /uː/ is presented. Measurements at equidistant intervals along the F1 and F2 contours of /uː/ are compared with polynomial characterisations of the contours. Approximating the contours with quadratic and cubic polynomials allows more speaker-distinguishing information to be conveyed with fewer parameters. Based on discrimin...

More than three years of measurements of aerosol size-distribution and different gas and meteorological parameters made in Po Valley, Italy were analysed for this study to examine which of the meteorological and trace gas variables effect on the emergence of nucleation events. As the analysis method, we used discriminant analysis with nonparametric Epanechnikov kernel, included in non-parametri...

In order to evaluate the relationship between SDS-sedimentation value and breadmaking quality of wheat (Triticum aestivum L.), glutenin subunits of different genotypes (foreign and Iranian cultivars) were analyzed by reverse-phase high performance liquid chromatography (RP-HPLC). SDS-sedimentation value was used as an indirect criterion for breadmaking quality. Correlation coefficients revealed...

A high-performance biologically-inspired odor identification system is described. As a means of odor recognition, learning vector quantization (LVQ) algorithm is employed. Performance improvement is obtained with the use of a preprocessing with discriminant analysis of input samples. Due to sample-based decision, the system can be reliably operated as a real-time electronic nose.

This paper introduces the theory of factor analysis of the mixture of Auto-Associative Neural Networks (AANNs) with application in speaker verification. First, we formulate the problem of learning a low-dimensional subspace in part of the mixture of AANNs parameter space, and subsequently derive the update equations by minimizing loss function of the mixture. Second, we apply this technique to ...

Fisher proposed a linear discriminant function (Fisher’s LDF). From 1971, we analysed electrocardiogram (ECG) data in order to develop the diagnostic logic between normal and abnormal symptoms by Fisher’s LDF and a quadratic discriminant function (QDF). Our four years research was inferior to the decision tree logic developed by the medical doctor. After this experience, we discriminated many d...
