Electrical current signatures of DNA adducts were investigated during immobilization of strands inside the membrane-bound α-hemolysin ion channel. The current blockages produced by these adducts were found to depend on both size and shape, providing insights into the DNA-protein interactions and the size limitation of bulky adducts to be translocated.

A guanine-rich DNA oligonucleotide complexed with hemin was used to catalyze controlled oxygen transfer reactions to different sulfides for sulfoxide preparation in the presence of H2O2. Comparable activities were obtained when using fully modified L-DNA. In addition, oligonucleotide immobilization led to an active catalyst which could be successfully recovered and reused without loss of activity.

The copper-catalyzed alkyne-azide cycloaddition (CuAAC) reaction was applied as the novel method of DNA immobilization on a modified solid support. The CuAAC click reaction enables the covalent binding of DNA modified with pentynyl groups at its 5'-end to azide-loaded slides. Click microarrays were produced using this approach and successfully employed in biological/model experiments.
