SummaryThese two case reports illustrate the importance of doing a thorough dysmorphology examination for all so called "Multiple congenital anomalies" children and attempting to fit them into a recognized syndrome. Well over 2000 dysmorphic syndromes are now recognized and diagnosis of these children can be extremely difficult.
A characteristic pattern of dental anomalies including cone-shaped premolars, multitubercular molar crowns, pyramidal molar roots with single root canals, shovel-shaped incisors with palatal invaginations and hypodontia usually described as lobodontia was recognised as a separate entity. Only a few family reports on this condition have been published until now. The prevalence of the condition i...

METHODS Active case ascertainment methods were employed among 747 first-grade pupils. The detailed characteristics of children within the continuum of FASD are contrasted with randomly selected, normal controls on (...
Several laboratories, including ours, have reported an overrepresentation of craniofacial (CF) anomalies in schizophrenia (SZ). How might this dysmorphology arise in a brain-based disorder? Because the brain and face derive from shared embryologic primordia and morphogenetic forces, maldevelopmental processes may result in both CF and brain dysmorphology. Our approach is 2-pronged. First, we hav...
OBJECTIVE The aim of the study was to determine the prevalence and characteristics of fetal alcohol syndrome (FAS) in a second primary school cohort in a community in South Africa. We report four sibs with an MCA/MR syndrome whose parents were first cousins. The sibs had mental retardation, microcephaly, hearing problems, cataract, and multiple osseous malformations, such as dislocated elbows, bowed tibiae, and scoliosis. Review of published reports and the use of the London Dysmorphology Database suggest that this family presents a new syndrome.
