Figure 1. The bionic prosthesis’ mass of 2.0 kg is equivalent to a biological foot and partial shank of an 80 kg person. The prosthesis includes a carbonfiber in-series leaf spring, unidirectional parallel leaf spring, and heel and forefoot leaf springs that provide elasticity. A series-elastic actuator performs negative and positive work. The actuator is comprised of a 200-Watt DC brushless mo...

A~tract. The finite amplitude, coupled shear-torsional motion of a circular disk supported between identical rubber spring cylinders is studied. The material of the springs is assumed to be an incompressible elastic material. The oscillatory motion of the disk is studied for two different cases. In the first case, the material of the spring is assumed to be an incompressible elastic material wh...

A new mathematical model is presented to describe the elastic and viscoelastic properties of a single collagen fiber. The model is formulated by accounting for the mechanical contribution of the collagen fiber's main constituents: the microfibrils, the interfibrillar matrix and crosslinks. The collagen fiber is modeled as a linear elastic spring, which represents the mechanical contribution of ...

In this paper, an interactive platform is introduced that users can create dancing animation of models with various topologies, including humans, flowers, animals and etc. Two different physical models, the spring model without mass and elastic joint model are applied into system. In the interaction procedure, the models are set as spring model, which could propagate the force at one joint to t...

Compliant actuation methods are popular in robotics applications where interaction with complex and unpredictable environments and objects is required. There are a number of ways of achieving this, but one common method is Series Elastic Actuation (SEA). In a recent version of their Unified Snake robot, Choset et al. incorporated a Series Elastic Element (SEE) in the form of a rubber torsional ...

This paper studies the solution behavior of a system of two coupled elastic beams connected vertically by springs. With the viscous damping collocated with the ends of the springs, the system energy decays exponentially. Our goal is to find the optimal spring-damper location which yields the best energy decay rate of the beam-spring system.

Simple harmonic motion is back and forth regularly through an equilibrium point with the number of vibrations in every second always same or constant. This experiment focuses on one example elastic object, namely a spring. The response spring to force indicated by increase length background this vibration explain process which visualized waves aim explaining wave. data collection method only us...

During locomotion, major muscle groups are often activated cyclically. This alternate stretch-shorten pattern of activity could enable muscle to function as a spring, storing and recovering elastic recoil potential energy. Because the ability to store and recover elastic recoil energy could profoundly affect the energetics of locomotion, one might expect this to be an adaptable feature of skele...

While the wing kinematics of many flapping insects have been well characterized, understanding the underlying sensory, neural, and physiological mechanisms that determine these kinematics is still a challenge. Two main difficulties in understanding the physiological mechanisms arise from the complexity of the interaction between a flapping wing and its own unsteady flow, as well as the intricat...
