In a statistical study of the decay of individual sunspots based on DPR data we find that the mean instantaneous area decay rate is related to the spot radius r and the maximal radius r0 as D = CD r/r0, CD = 32.0±0.26MSH/day. This implies that sunspots on the mean follow a parabolic decay law; the traditional linear decay law is excluded by the data. The validity of the Gnevyshev–Waldmeier rela...

Size exclusion chromatography (SEC) was used to determine the viscosity radii of equivalent spheres for proteins covalently grafted with poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG). The viscosity radius of such PEGylated proteins was found to depend on the molecular weight of the native protein and the total weight of grafted PEG but not on PEG molecular weight, or PEG-to-protein molar grafting ratio. Results ...

We propose a non-perturbative attempt to solve the kinematic equations for spiral waves in excitable media. From the eikonal equation for the wave front we derive an implicit analytical relation between rotation frequency Ω and core radius R(0). For free, rigidly rotating spiral waves our analytical prediction is in good agreement with numerical solutions of the linear eikonal equation not only...

We discuss inverse resonance scattering for the Laplacian on a rotationally symmetric manifold M = ( 0 , ∞ ) × Y whose rotation radius is constant outside some compact interval. The unitarily equivalent to direct sum of one-dimensional Schrödinger operators with compactly supported potentials half-line. prove Asymptotics counting function resonances at large radius. uniquely determined by its e...

In this paper we study configuration spaces of hard spheres in a bounded region. We develop a general Morse-theoretic framework and show that mechanically balanced configurations play the role of critical points. As an application, we find the precise threshold radius for a configuration space to be homotopy equivalent to the configuration space of points.

The recording radius and spatial selectivity of an extracellular probe are important for interpreting neurophysiological recordings but are rarely measured. Moreover, an analysis of the recording biophysics of multisite probes (e.g., tetrodes) can provide for source characterization and localization of spiking single units, but this capability has remained largely unexploited. Here we address b...

In this article, an exact levy solution is presented for bending analysis of a functionally graded (FG) annular sector plate. The governing equilibrium equations are obtained based on the classical plate theory. Introducing an analytical method for the first time, the three coupled governing equilibrium equations are replaced by an independent equation in term of transverse deflection. This equ...

Friedland (1981) showed that for a nonnegative square matrix A, the spectral radius r(eA) is a log-convex functional over the real diagonal matrices D. He showed that for fully indecomposable A, log r(eA) is strictly convex over D1,D2 if and only if D1 −D2 6= c I for any c ∈ R. Here the condition of full indecomposability is shown to be replaceable by the weaker condition that A and A>A be irre...
