The transport equation of entropy is introduced in large eddy simulation to perform exergy analysis of turbulent combustion systems. The sources of exergy destruction can be evaluated by analyzing entropy generation terms, which appear in unclosed forms in this equation. The closure is based on the filtered density function (FDF) methodology. The primary advantage of FDF is that chemical reacti...

The vitality of the society is strongly depending on the management of physical, environmental and human resources. The dilemma of the modern society can be stated: misuse of physical resources from poor understanding of concepts such as exergy, misuse of nature from ignorance of ecology and misuse of people or human intelligence from lack of democracy. Exergy is a well-established concept in e...

during the last years the total cost of lng technology has decreased significantly due to improvements of the liquefaction process. however, many liquefaction plants that are still in operation use a three-cascade refrigeration system. in this paper, an advanced exergetic analysis is applied to better understand the operation of a three-cascade refrigeration system for liquefaction of natural g...

in this paper, exergy of conditioned air, exergy efficiency, irreversibility, and entropy generation of common models of evaporative cooling have been investigated in five cities of iran. direct evaporative cooling (dec), indirect evaporative cooling (iec), and two-stage iec/dec as the most popular methods of cooling have been modeled. atmospheric conditions are considered as the dead state of ...

In this study, the first and the second laws of thermodynamics (exergetic analysis) are used to analyse the performance of a single stage ammonia-water absorption cooling system operating under different working conditions. In this analysis, the performance of the system is simulated under various operating temperatures: the condenser and absorber (30 and 40°C), evaporator (-10°C, 0°C and +10°C...

Renewable energy system is an important concern for sustainable development of the World. Thermodynamic analysis, especially exergy analysis is an intense tool to assess sustainability of the systems. Food processing industry is one of the energy intensive sectors where dairy industry consumes substantial amount of energy among other food industry segments. Therefore, in this study, thermodynam...

The external irreversible losses of air engines, due to equilibration of the hot and fast exhaust with the environment, are discussed based on the second law of thermodynamics. The effect of the bypass ratio on thermomechanical exergy destruction in the exhaust stream is demonstrated. The analysis gives a strong motivation for the use of high bypass turbo fan engines in modern aircraft.

Refrigeration cogeneration systems which generate power alongside with cooling improve energy utilization significantly, because such systems offer a more reasonable arrangement of energy and exergy ‘‘flows’’ within the system, which results in lower fuel consumption as compared to the separate generation of power and cooling or heating. This paper proposes several novel systems of that type, b...

Brazilian intensive production of broiler chickens has stood out as an important livestock activity for the country and its main obstacle is the energy supply for birds’ ambience. Analysis of energy conversion processes based on exergy takes into account the quantity and quality of transformed energy. This concept can be applied to the production chain of broiler chickens, contributing to deter...

In manufacturing, thermal spray technology encompasses a group of coating processes that provide functional surfaces to improve the performance of the components and protect them from corrosion, wear, heat and other failings. Many types and forms of feedstock can be thermal sprayed, and each requires different process conditions and life cycle preparations. The required thermal energy is genera...
