Over the last decade, impressive advances have beenmade inPDXmodeling ofAML. Theengraftment rate forAMLsamples as awhole has been significantly increased through the use of mice that have beenmademore immune deficient by IL2RG knockout and by the transgenic expression of human myelo-supportive cytokines. Nevertheless, the engraftment of samples from favorable-risk patients, including CBF-rearra...

It is an easy problem to find, by backward induction, the betting system that maximizes E(X20|X0), your expected fortune after the 20 days have passed. It is to bet all you have each day. On the last day, given you have fortune X19, to maximize E(X20|X19) you bet it all, b20 = X19, and your expected final fortune is (2/3)2X19 + (1/3)0 = (4/3)X19. Since E(X20|X18) = E(E(X20|X19)|X18) = (4/3)E(X1...

The recently introduced Thermodynamic Binding Networks (TBN) model was developed with the purpose of studying self-assembling systems by focusing on their thermodynamically favorable final states, and ignoring the kinetic pathways through which they evolve. The model was intentionally developed to abstract away not only the notion of time, but also the constraints of geometry. Collections of mo...

Assume that we are hardened and unscrupulous types with an infinitely wealthy friend. We induce him to match any bet we wish to make on the event that a coin biased in our favor will turn up heads. That is, at every toss we have probability p > 1/2 of doubling the amount of our bet. If we are clever, as well as unscrupulous, we soon begin to worry about how much of our available fortune to bet ...

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE During the past 40 years, several attempts have been made with total wrist arthroplasty to avoid fusion in severely destroyed wrists. The results have often been disappointing. There is only modest clinical documentation due to the small number of patients (especially non-rheumatoid cases) and short follow-up times. Here we report a multicenter series using a third-genera...

People believe that future others' preferences and beliefs will change to align with their own. People holding a particular view (e.g., support of President Trump) are more likely to believe that future others will share their view than to believe that future others will have an opposing view (e.g., opposition to President Trump). Six studies demonstrated this belief in a favorable future (BFF)...

A 66-year-old female with diabetes mellitus and end-stage renal disease presented with painful bilateral lower extremity livedo reticularis and necrotic ulcerations. Her distal lower extremity pulses were intact and plethysmographic studies confirmed relatively normal large vessel arterial perfusion. Extensive laboratory analysis was remarkable for an elevated calcium x phosphorous product and ...
