This is a study of q-Fermions arising from a q-deformed algebra of harmonic oscillators. Two distinct algebras will be investigated. Employing the first algebra, the Fock states are constructed for the generalized Fermions obeying Pauli exclusion principle. The distribution function and other thermodynamic properties such as the internal energy and entropy are derived. Another generalization of...

Behavior of doped fermions in Z2 gauge theories for the quantum dimer and eight-vertex models is studied. Fermions carry charge and spin degrees of freedom. In the confinement phase of the Z2 gauge theories, these internal symmetries are spontaneously broken and a superconducting or Neél state appears. On the other hand in the deconfinement-topologically-ordered state, all symmetries are respec...

A Dirac fermion in a topological Dirac semimetal is a quadruple-degenerate quasiparticle state with a relativistic linear dispersion. Breaking either time-reversal or inversion symmetry turns this system into a Weyl semimetal that hosts double-degenerate Weyl fermion states with opposite chiralities. These two kinds of quasiparticles, although described by a relativistic Dirac equation, do not ...

We study the properties of heavy fermions in the vector-like representation of the electro-weak gauge group SU(2)W × U(1)Y with Yukawa couplings to the standard model (SM) Higgs boson. Using the renormalization group analysis, we discuss their effects on the vacuum stability and the triviality bound on the Higgs self-coupling, within the context of the standard model (i.e., the Higgs particle i...

We argue that the compact three dimensional electrodynamics with massless relativistic fermions is always in the confined phase, in spite of the bare interaction between the magnetic monopoles being rendered logarithmic by fermions. The effect is caused by screening by other dipoles, which transforms the logarithmic back into the Coulomb interaction at large distances. Possible implications for...

We propose an experimental scheme to simulate and observe relativistic Dirac fermions with cold atoms in a hexagonal optical lattice. By controlling the lattice anisotropy, one can realize both massive and massless Dirac fermions and observe the phase transition between them. Through explicit calculations, we show that both the Bragg spectroscopy and the atomic density profile in a trap can be ...

The emission rate of fermions from 2+1 dimensional BTZ black holes is shown to have a form which can be reproduced from a conformal field theory at finite temperature. The rate obtained for fermions is identical to the rate of non-minimally coupled fermions emitted from a five dimensional black hole, whose near horizon geometry is BTZ × M , where M is a compact manifold. 04.60.-m,04.62.+v,04.70...

We investigate a proposal for the construction of models with chiral fermions on the lattice using staggered fermions. In this approach the gauge invariance is broken by the coupling of the staggered fermions to the gauge fields. We aim at a dynamical restoration of the gauge invariance in the full quantum model. If the gauge symmetry breaking (SB) is not too severe, this procedure could lead i...

Using Majorana Fermions to represent spins we reexamine the Kondo Lattice model for heavy fermions. The simplest decoupling procedure provides a realization of odd frequency superconductivity, with resonant pairing and surfaces of gap zeros. Spin and charge coherence factors vanish linearly with the energy on the Fermi surface, predicting a linear specific heat, but a T 3 NMR relaxation rate. P...

We discuss topological obstructions to putting chiral fermions on an even dimensional lattice. The setting includes Ginsparg-Wilson fermions, but is more general. We prove a theorem which relates the total chirality to the difference of generalised winding numbers of chiral projection operators. For an odd number of Weyl fermions this implies that particles and anti-particles live in topologica...
