The Hitchin component Hit_n(S) of a closed surface S is preferred the character variety X_PSL_n(R)(S) consisting homomorphisms from fundamental group pi_1(S) to Lie PSL_n(R)(S), whose elements enjoy remarkable geometric and dynamical properties. We consider certain type deformations Hit_n(S), called shearing deformations, compute their pairing for Atiyah-Bott-Goldman symplectic form variety.

Gaseous Bose-Einstein condensates of 2-3 x 10(6) 23Na atoms were loaded into a microfabricated magnetic trap using optical tweezers. Subsequently, the condensates were released into a magnetic waveguide and propagated 12 mm. Single-mode propagation was observed along homogeneous segments of the waveguide. Inhomogeneities in the guiding potential arose from geometric deformations of the microfab...

Non-geometric string backgrounds were proposed to be related to a nonassociative deformation of the space-time geometry. In the flux formulation of double field theory (DFT), the structure of mathematically possible non-associative deformations is analyzed in detail. It is argued that on-shell there should not be any violation of associativity in the effective DFT action. For imposing either th...

The global regularity problem concerning the inviscid SQG and the 3D Euler equations remains outstandingly open. This paper presents several geometric observations on solutions of these equations. One observation stems from a relation between what we call Eulerian and Lagrangian deformations and reflects the alignment of the stretching directions of these deformations and the tangent direction ...

We classify all functions satisfying non-trivial families of PVIα equations. It turns out that, up to an Okamoto equivalence, there are exactly four families parameterized by affine planes or lines. Each affine space is generated by points of ”geometric origin”, associated either to deformations of elliptic surfaces with four singular fibers, or to deformations of three-sheeted covers of P1 wit...

In most robotic applications, tactile sensors are modeled as rigid matrices of adjacent pressure sensing elements so that the geometric deformations of their surfaces are neglected. This paper proposes to define these deformations as rotational and translational compliances that are later used as new tactile features for tactile servoing tasks. In fact, a novel two-layered inverse tactile Jacob...

This paper presents a registration-free method based on geometry spectrum for mapping two shapes. Our method can quantify and visualize the surface deformation by the variation of Laplace-Beltrami spectrum of the object. In order to examine our method, we employ synthetic data that has non-isometric deformation. We have also applied our method to quantifying the shape variation between the left...

Our work is motivated by the geometric study of lower back pain from patient CT images. In this paper, we take a first step towards that goal by introducing a data-driven way of identifying anatomical regions of interest. We propose a probabilistic model of the geometrical variability and describe individual patients as noisy deformations of a random spatial structure (modeled as regions) from ...

This paper presents a new super-element with twelve degrees of freedom for latticed columns. This elements is developed such that it behaves, with an acceptable approximation, in the same manner as a reference model does. The reference model is constructed by using many Solid elements. The cross section area, moments of inertia, shear coefficient and torsoinal rigidity of the developed new elem...

Here, we propose a new method for the watermarking to withstand the geometric attacks, which may occur during the transmission of the watermarked image. The underlying system is based on Direct Sequence Code Division Multiple Access (DS-CDMA). The algorithm for the normalization has been formulated for use in black and white images. The watermark is spread across the carrier image by using the ...
