The aim of this study was to investigate the hemagglutination properties of caprine herpesvirus-1(CpHV-1) and their application for CpHV-1 antigen detection and evaluation of the dynamics of postinfectious/vaccine antibody production. CpHV-1 hemagglutination activity was proved only with mouseerythrocytes, PBS and saline solutions at 4°C and 22°C. In vaccinated animals, goats and bucks withresp...

A specific hemagglutination reaction has been described (1) between the sera of tuberculous experimental animals or human beings and sheep erythrocytes treated with extracts or products of the culture filtrates of tubercle bacilli. Observations on this reaction have been confirmed and extended by other investigators (2-6). The present paper is concerned with a modification of this test which in...

Reversed passive hemagglutination was used to assay enterotoxin in culture filtrates and in food samples. With cells tanned and then sensitized with antitoxin globulin and preserved with either formaldehyde or pyruvic aldehyde, as little as 0.0007 mug of enterotoxin was detectable. The results of hemagglutination tests compared well with those obtained by quantitative precipitin tests or by imm...

A simple and economical method for differentiating Bacteroides asaccharolyticus of oral sources from nonoral sources is described. The present data indicate that oral strains of B. asaccharolyticus strongly agglutinate sheep erythrocytes, whereas isolates from various nonoral sites typically are devoid of hemagglutination activity. The direct hemagglutination test may aid in determining the sou...

The indirect hemagglutination assay routinely used to detect antibodies to Burkholderia pseudomallei was modified to detect cross-reactivity of antibodies to B. pseudomallei, B. mallei, and B. thailandensis antigens. We demonstrate a lack of cross-reactivity between B. pseudomallei and B. thailandensis but marked cross-reactivity between B. pseudomallei and B. mallei.

BACKGROUND Although melioidosis, is an important disease in many Southeast Asian countries and Australia, there is limited data on its prevalence and disease burden in India. However, an increase in case reports of melioidosis in recent years indicates its endemicity in India. AIMS AND METHODS A population-based cross-sectional seroprevalence study was undertaken to determine the seroprevalen...

The hemolysis-in-gel method for detection of antibodies to rubella virus gave results which correlated well with results of hemagglutination inhibition and neutralization tests. With a diffusion time of 24 or 48 h, a linear correlation was obtained between the logarithm of antibody concentration and the diameter of the hemolytic zone. Fourfold, and even twofold, differences in serum antibody co...

Kunin, Calvin M. (University of Virginia, Charlottesville) and Mary V. Beard. Serological studies of O antigens of Escherichia coli by means of the hemagglutination test. J. Bacteriol. 85:541-548. 1963.-The serological interrelationships among most of the known O antigens of Escherichia coli were studied by the hemagglutination test. Good agreement with the bacterial agglutination test was foun...

An immune adherence hemagglutination (IAHA) test for the measurement of antibodies to Legionella pneumophila was developed and evaluated for the diagnosis of Legionnaires disease. Its sensitivity was compared to that of the indirect fluorescent antibody (IFA) test and a recently developed indirect hemagglutination (IHA) test. The sensitivity of the three tests appeared to be similar, with the I...
