Abstract Background and Aims: Herpes simplex virus (HSV) is a common cause of corneal disease and is the leading infectious cause of corneal blindness among developed nations. This study is aimed to provide an estimation of the incidence of Herpes Simplex Virustype-1, 2(HSV1, 2) and Varicella Zoster Virus (VZV) in tears and swab from eye infection by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) in eye ...
Herpes simplex virus types 1 (HSV-1) and 2 (HSV-2) are members of the Herpesviridae family. About 40% to 80% of the world populations are infected with HSV and its prevalence is high in Iran. The high prevalence of this virus in the community and the ability of the virus in causing fatal diseases among immunocompromised patients, have encouraged studies to be performed on HSV and suitable cell ...
background: the herpes simplex virus (hsv) ul41 gene product, virion host shutoff (vhs) protein, mediates the rapid degradation of both viral and cellular mrna. this ability suggests that vhs protein can be used as a suicide gene in cancer gene therapy applications. the recent reports have shown that the degradation of cellular mrna during herpes simplex infection is selective. rna containing a...
We transitioned laboratory-developed PCR assays for herpes simplex virus 1 (HSV-1), HSV-2, and varicella-zoster virus (VZV) to the BD Max system by using BD Max open system reagents. After optimization, the agreement with the reference PCR assay was 100% (123/123) for HSV-1, 96.7% (119/123) for HSV-2, and 100% (60/60) for VZV using retrospective clinical samples.
Inhibitors of cell enzyme Inosine 5 ́-Monophosphate (IMP) dehydrogenase – Ribavirine (Rbv), Micophenolic acid (MPA) and Mizoribine (MZR) have potential application as antiherpes agents in combination with acyclovir (ACV). The effectivity of action of ACV on herpesvirus replication is improved after decreasing of the concentration of dGTP as a result of IMP dehydrogenase inhibition. The antiviral...
Acyclovir is a synthetic purine nucleoside analogue with in vitro and in vivo inhibitory activity against human herpes viruses including herpes simplex types 1 (HSV-1) and 2 (HSV2), varicella-zoster virus (VZV), Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) and cytomegalovirus (CMV). In cell cultures, acyclovir has the highest antiviral activity against HSV-1, followed in decreasing order of potency against HSV-2, ...
BACKGROUND: Herpes simplex keratitis is a sight threatening ocular infection. A rapid and specific diagnosis is essential for the institution of specific antiviral therapy and to avoid complications that can arise from misdiagnosis and inappropriate treatment. Though a variety of techniques are available, isolation of Herpes simplex virus 1 (HSV-1) in culture provides the most reliable and spec...
After replication at sites of initial inoculation, herpes simplex virus type 1 and 2 (HSV-1 and HSV-2) establish lifelong latent infections of the sensory and autonomic neurons of the ganglia serving those sites. Periodically, the virus reactivates from these neurons, and travels centripetally along the neuronal axon to cause recurrent epithelial infection. The major clinically observed differe...
Background: It was shown that olive leave extract has antifungal, antibacterial and antiviral activities. The effects of OLE on herpes simplex virus-1 (HSV-1) have not been systematically investigated yet. The aim of this study was to examine the in vitro effect of olive leaf hydroalcoholic extract (OLHE) on HSV-1. Methods: Virucidal effect and viral replication in Vero cell line were studied i...
