INTRODUCTION The associations between leptin, interleukin (IL)-6, and hip radiographic osteoarthritis (OA) have not been reported, and their roles in obesity-related hip OA are unclear. The aim of this study was to describe the associations between leptin, IL-6, and hip radiographic osteoarthritis (ROA) in older adults. METHODS A cross-sectional sample of 193 randomly selected subjects (mean ...

UNLABELLED To perform a clinical and radiographic assessment of patients undergoing surgical treatment using a cortical structural homologous bone graft for femoral reconstruction following mechanical failure of total hip arthroplasty and periprosthetic fractures. METHODS A retrospective study was conducted on 27 patients who underwent surgical treatment for femoral reconstruction following m...

OBJECTIVE Previous case-control studies have shown various degrees of inverse relationship between osteoarthritis (OA) and osteoporosis (OP). The aim of this study was to examine the relationship between radiographic hip OA and bone mineral density (BMD) at the affected and contralateral hips, as well as at more distal sites. We also explored the possibility that this association might be confo...

Caudolateral curvilinear osteophyte (CCO), an osteophyte at the site of joint capsule attachment on the caudal aspect of the femoral neck, has been advocated as a radiographic criterion for coxofemoral subluxation. The correlation between the presence of CCO on radiographs (radiographic-CCO), the size of the CCO (CCO index) on three-dimensional computed tomographic (CT) images, and hip evaluati...

BACKGROUND The amount of patients referred with longstanding, non-arthritic hip pain is increasing, as are the treatment options. Left untreated hip dysplasia, acetabular retroversion and femoroacetabular impingement (FAI) may lead to osteoarthritis (OA). Finding the right treatment option for the right patient can be challenging in patients with non-arthritic hip pain. PURPOSE The purpose of...

We report a case of a 50-year-old man with extensive metallosis 20 years after right total hip arthroplasty. CT demonstrated osteolysis and radiodense debris surrounding the right hip joint. Although the radiographic appearance of metallosis has been well documented in the literature, the CT appearance of metallosis after total hip arthroplasty has been only sparsely described.

BACKGROUND This study aimed to report the radiographic presentation of involved hips in children with hereditary multiple exostoses (HME). This included radiographic hip measurements, osteochondromas location, and relationship with hip subluxation. METHODS Anteroposterior pelvis radiographs of children with HME, seen between 2003 and 2014, were retrospectively reviewed. Only patients who were...

Preoperative planning for total hip arthroplasty includes templating on anteroposterior radiographs. It is necessary to consider radiographic magnification in order to scale templates accurately. Studies dealing with hip templating report different values of radiographic magnification. It is not clear if the observed difference in magnification between the studies is caused by variability in st...

AIM To ensure hip surveillance guidelines reflect current evidence of factors influencing hip displacement in children with cerebral palsy (CP). METHOD A three-step review process was undertaken: (1) systematic literature review, (2) analysis of hip surveillance databases, and (3) national survey of orthopaedic surgeons managing hip displacement in children with CP. RESULTS Fifteen articles...
