We describe a new RNA cleavage motif, found in the hammerhead ribozyme. Cleavage occurs between nucleotides G8 and A9, yielding a free 5'-hydroxyl group and a 2',3'-cyclic phosphate. This cleavage is dependent upon divalent metal ions and is the first evidence for a metalloribozyme known to show preference for Zn(2+). Cleavage is also observed in the presence of Ni(2+), Co(2+), Mn(2+), Cd(2+), ...
Flavonoids exhibit antioxidant behavior believed to be related to their metal ion chelation ability. We investigate the complexation mechanism of several flavonoids, quercetin, luteolin, galangin, kaempferol, and chrysin, with iron, the most abundant type of metal ions in the body, through first-principles electronic structure calculations based on density functional theory (DFT). We find that ...
This paper explains the Fenton process – Advanced Oxidation Process for treatment of industrial waste water and effect of various parameters on Fenton process. AOPs are the process that generates the hydroxyl radical that oxidizes the impurity compounds and purifies the waste water. For generation of hydroxyl radical there are many methods are available. Fenton process is an advanced oxidation ...
A specific ion-pair approach can be involved in precise control of the size of gold nanodots. The dendrimers with terminal amine and hydroxyl groups were a hydrophilic and hydrophobic microcavity-template, respectively, for trapping gold salts. The facile strategy can significantly enhance the quantum yield of gold nanodots from 20% to 62% after microwave irradiation.
Isolated rat-liver nuclei were incubated with a series of membrane-permeable metal-ion-complexing agents and examined for DNA damage. Of the reagents tested, only 1,10-phenanthroline (OP) and neocuproine (NC) were found to induce DNA fragmentation. Agarose-gel electrophoresis of the DNA fragments generated in the presence of OP revealed internucleosomal cleavage, which is widely considered to b...
Isothiocyanates (ITCs) are organosulfur compounds derived from cruciferous plants. An electrophilic ITC group (-N=C=S) reacts with some functional groups such as a hydroxyl ion, thiol and amine in proteins. It is known that ITCs decomposed easily by the addition of ion to aqueous solutions. In intracellular behavior, primary target group, which results formation their dithiocarbamate conjugates...
The binding of four inhibitors--mercuric ion, 3-acetoxymercuri-4-aminobenzenesulfonamide (AMS), acetazolamide (Diamox), and thiocyanate ion--to human carbonic anhydrase II (HCA II) has been studied with X-ray crystallography. The binding of mercury to HCA II at pH 7.0 has been investigated at 3.1 A resolution. Mercuric ions are observed at both nitrogens in the His-64 ring. One of these sites i...
Fumonisin A-series (FAs) in a reference material of corn sample that was naturally contaminated with fumonisins was characterized using high-resolution liquid chromatography-Orbitrap mass spectrometry (LC-Orbitap MS). Peaks for fumonisin B1 (FB1), fumonisin B2 (FB2), and fumonisin B3 (FB3), in addition to three peaks corresponding to unknown compounds I, II, and III, were detected in the chroma...
