In the genus Hypericum, cryoconservation offers a strategy for maintenance of remarkable biodiversity, emerging from large inter- and intra-specific variability in morphological and phytochemical characteristics. Long-term cryostorage thus represents a proper tool for preservation of genetic resources of endangered and threatened Hypericum species or new somaclonal variants with unique properti...
Background & Aim: St John's wort (Hypericum perforatum L.) contains hypericin and hyperforin as the main components of the extract that binds with GABA and sigma opioid receptors. This herb has many pharmacological effects, including analgesic, sedative, soothing, antispasmodic, anticonvulsant, anti-depressant, and anti-bacteria. In this study examined the effect of two concentrations of Hyperi...
Hypericin and pseudohypericin were found in 27 of the 36 evaluated species from Hypericum L., belonging to 17 sections of the genus. Pseudohypericin is reported by us in 15 taxa for the first time. Most of the species contained both components and the amount of pseudohypericin usually exceeded that of hypericin. In H. hirsutum and H. empetrifolium only hypericin was found, whereas H. formosissi...
The effect of nano selenium foliar application on some secondary metabolites Hypericum perforatum L.

The effect of the gene dosage on the expression of rRNAs was studied in Hypericum perforatum. The methylation levels of rDNA were analysed using the isoschizomers MspI and HpaII and eleven additional methylation-sensitive enzymes. No differences in rDNA methylation were observed between diploids and tetraploids at an early ontogenetic stage.
Hyperfoliatin, a new polyisoprenylated phloroglucinol derivative was isolated from the aerial parts of Hypericum perfoliatum (Clusiaceae) collected in Algeria. The structure of hyperfoliatin was elucidated on the basis of its spectral data, mainly MS and multiple-pulse NMR.
Dried plant material of the genus Hypericum is successfully used as versatile catalyst in photoredox reactions.
NEDKOV, N., 2007. Research on the Effect of Pre-sowing Treatment on Seed Germination of Hypericum perforatum L. Bulg. J. Agric. Sci., 13: 31-37 Trials were carried out for improvement of seed germination of St. John's Wort (Hypericum perforatum L.) based on studies of main sowing properties after treatments as follows: soaking, soaking and heating and combined seed stratification. Recommendatio...
