OBJECTIVE To investigate the long-term effects of antipsychotic (AP) treatment and AP-induced hyperprolactinemia on bone mineral density (BMD) and body composition in male adolescents with autism spectrum disorders (ASDs) and/or disruptive behavior disorder (DBD). DESIGN Physically healthy 10- to 20-year-old boys with ASD and/or DBD, chronically treated (n=56; mean 52 months, range 16-126 mon...
OBJECTIVE: Hyperprolactinemia is a frequent evidence occurring in both metastatic breast cancer and prostate cancer, and it has been proven to be associated with poor prognosis and reduced effi cacy of the anticancer therapies. Therefore, the pharmacological control of cancer-related hyperprolactinemia could improve the prognosis of advanced breast and prostate carcinomas. Unfortunately, at pre...
Idiopathic granulomatous mastitis (IGM) is a rare inflammatory breast disease. The etiology and treatment options of IGM remain controversial. Previous case reports have suggested that hyperprolactinemia may be associated with IGM. In the present report, we describe the first case of IGM associated with risperidone-induced hyperprolactinemia.
Two patients with suprasellar cysts and hyperprolactinemia are described. These lesions were diagnosed by CT metrizamide cisternography. Suprasellar cysts are a rare cause of pathologic hyperprolactinemia, which most commonly results from pituitary adenomas. Tissue diagnosis revealed suprasellar arachnoid cysts in the first patient and Rathke's cleft cyst in the second. The differential diagnos...
INTRODUCTION Laboratory discrimination of pathologic hyperprolactinemia is an important step in the diagnosis of pathology influencing overall health and fertility. A major issue is the choice of time and circumstances for obtaining a blood sample for prolactin assay that would be representative for mean daily plasma concentration of a subject. OBJECTIVES The aim of the study was a comparison...
background: recent accumulated evidence suggests that prolactin (prl) is an important immunomodulator and plays an important role in the pathogenesis of systemic lupus erythematosus (sle). the current study aimed to compare hyperprolactinemia frequency and evaluate its possible association with lupus activity in sle patients in zahedan. methods: in a case-control study we determined serum prola...
ntipsychotics have long been linked with hyperprolactinemia. This phenomenon was first considered a drug class effect, but the arrival of clozapine, better deliniation of dopamine receptor subtypes, and identification of the four principal CNS dopamine pathways revealed that hyperprolactinemia was not a universal consequence of antipsychotic use. We now know that most atypical antipsychotics ar...
Hyperprolactinemia is the most common cause of hypogonadotropic anovulation and is one of the leading causes of infertility in women aged 25-34. Hyperprolactinemia has been proposed to block ovulation through inhibition of GnRH release. Kisspeptin neurons, which express prolactin receptors, were recently identified as major regulators of GnRH neurons. To mimic the human pathology of anovulation...
