The effects of blueberry leaf (BBL) on lipid metabolism were studied in obese rats. Feeding of BBL lowered levels of serum lipids and C-reactive protein and alleviated hepatic triglyceride accumulation in the rats. The hypolipidemic effect might be attributable to a reduction of lipogenesis and enhancement of lipolysis in the liver. These results suggest the use of blueberry leaf as a dietary h...

Legumes have previously been reported with hypolipidemic effect caused by the presence of flavonoid. This study was carried out to evaluate the antioxidant and hypolipidemic effects of fermented mung bean on hypercholesterolemic mice. Blood from all mice was collected and subjected to serum lipid and liver profiles biochemical analysis and quantitative RT-PCR for atherosclerosis related gene ex...

The study was undertaken to investigate the hypolipidemic and hepatoprotective effects of the different fractions (Petroleum ether, ethyl acetate and chloroform) of methanolic extract of Momordica charantia. The different fractions of extract were administered intraperitoneally as a single dose of 150 mg/kg body weight to alloxan induced diabetic rats and found to reduce blood lipid level (Tota...

Because diabetes confers a very high risk of cardiovascular morbility and mortality, an aggressive hypolipidemic and antiplatelet treatment has been strongly recommended in the whole diabetic population. In particular, patients who have diabetes should be considered in "secondary prevention" even before presenting cardiovascular events, because diabetes is a "coronary heart disease equivalent."...

Animal and human clinical studies have demonstrated the ability of dietary food proteins to modulate endogenous lipid levels during abnormal lipid metabolism (dyslipidemia). Considering the susceptibility of proteins to gastric proteolytic activities, the hypolipidemic functions of proteins are possibly due, in part, to their peptide fragments. Food-derived peptides may directly modulate abnorm...
