A patient with massive proteinuria was discovered to have double light-chain disease. Immunological studies demonstrated monoclonal light chains of both the lambda and kappa type in urine. The light chains were separate and distinct and were not found to be a part of any of the whole molecule immunoglobulins such as IgG, IgM, IgA, IgD, or IgE. Uniqueness of the proteins was confirmed by column ...

Local genital antibodies to the infecting strains of Neisseria gonorrhoeae were demonstrated by indirect immunofluorescence (binding antibody) and by their ability to inhibit the attachment of gonococci to epithelial cells (functional antibody). Both IgG and IgA classes of immunoglobulin were involved, and the IgA component were primarily of a secreting (11S) nature. The ability of local genita...

The addition of TGF-beta to cultures of LPS-stimulated murine B cells causes a approximately 10-fold enhancement of IgA production, yet causes a 10-fold decrease in total Ig production. IL-2 and, to a lesser extent, IL-5 synergize with TGF-beta to further enhance IgA production and partially reverse the inhibition of total Ig production. IgA constitutes only approximately 0.1% of total Ig in LP...

We have found that bile is a useful source of secretory IgA (scIgA) which can specifically neutralize influenza virus infectivity. Using purified scIgA, we compared the mechanism of neutralization with that mediated by IgA monomers (prepared from scIgA by differential reduction) and IgG. At 4 degrees C, scIgA prevented the attachment of neutralized virus, while neither monomeric IgA nor IgG had...

Responses to prepartum injection of sows with Se and vitamin E (E) were evaluated by determining immunoglobulin (IgA, IgM, IgG) levels in the colostrum and serum of the sows and the serum of their offspring. Fifty-four sows (40 multiparous, 14 primiparous) receiving diets adequate in E and Se according to current NRC (1988) standards were randomly allotted to four treatment groups in which a si...

Fibronectin-binding protein I (SfbI) of Streptococcus pyogenes binds to mouse immunoglobulin G (IgG) but not to IgA or IgM in a nonimmune fashion. The fibronectin-binding domains of SfbI were responsible for this activity, which was targeted to the IgG F(ab')(2) fragment. SfbI also binds to B cells but not to CD4(+) or CD8(+) lymphocytes.

schizophrenia is a mental disorder painful with prevalence of about 1% in the world.  nowadays, there is no experimental test aiding the accurate diagnosis of schizophrenic patients but recently quantitative determination of some serum proteins led to many investigations on the roles of these in neuropsychiatric.in the present study, our aim is to quantitative determination apoa1 and igm betwee...

A strategy for the proteolytic fragmentation of human IgM has been developed. This method is called "cold pepsin digestion" because of its unique feature of achieving restricted peptic cleavages at 4 degrees and pH 4.0. Cold pepsin digestion has been applied successfully to produce an Fv fragment from 14 human IgM proteins. The Fv fragment consists of the heavy chain variable domain (VH) and th...
