BACKGROUND Different therapeutic approaches have been used in fetal-neonatal alloimmune thrombocytopenia, but many centers administer immunoglobulin G infusions to the pregnant woman. We studied the effect of maternal antenatal immunoglobulin infusions on fetal platelet counts in pregnancies with fetal alloimmune thrombocytopenia. DESIGN AND METHODS We retrospectively analyzed the clinical co...

Cord plasmas have a higher concentration of IgG than do the mothers, although autologous, fetal immunoglobulin G is only a small fraction of the neonate's complement. Maternal IgG levels are significantly lower than the nonpregnant adult female, a loss of about one third, which cannot be explained completely by maternal immunization of the fetus.

Intact rabbit immunoglobulin G molecules (IgGs) and their papain or pepsin fragments were radio-iodinated and injected into HeLa cells. Whole IgGs, Fab2, and Fc fragments were degraded with half-lives of 60-90 h, whereas half-lives of Fab fragments were 110 h. These results indicate that proteolytic cleavage in the hinge region of the IgG molecule is not the rate-limiting step in its intracellu...

In an epidemiological survey from South India, 936 serum samples were tested for IgG against recombinant baculovirus-expressed VP6 proteins from human group A and group C rotaviruses. The overall seroprevalence for group A was 100% and for group C was 25.32% (95% CI 22.64-28.21). The lowest seroprevalence for group C was in children aged <10 years (16.79%). An age-related rise in seroprevalence...

Feeding newborn calves high-quality colostrum is of well-recognised importance as calves that do not receive an adequate concentration of immunoglobulin-G (IgG) have an increased risk of morbidity and mortality. This experiment aimed to characterise IgG concentrations in colostrum from the first milking in New Zealand dairy cows, examine IgG status of calves, and to evaluate the use of a refrac...
