AIM This retrospective study aimed to evaluate the long-term response and toxicity of recurrent malignant glioma patients to inhalation chemotherapy with perillyl alcohol (POH). PATIENTS AND METHODS The cohort included 117 men and 81 women with primary glioblastoma multiforme (GBM; n=154), grade III astrocytoma (AA; n=26) and anaplastic oligodendroglioma (AO; n=5). POH inhalation schedule 4-t...

The ideal way to deliver drugs in asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is by inhalation. A standard dose of salbutamol for inhalation is 100 micrograms compared with 2 or 4 mg in tablet form. Hence, if drugs can be delivered directly to the lung they will act faster and at a lower dose (20to 40-fold in the case of salbutamol) which will reduce the incidence of side-effects. Ho...

The article describes a clinical case of inhalation therapy with high doses nitric oxide (NO) in comorbid patient severe course COVID-19. An air stream containing NO was generated using the PLAZON device. High-dose administered as life-saving option due to lack effect from treatment delivered accordance current national guidelines for safety and efficacy technique demonstrated.

Adequate oxygen stress induced by low-dose irradiation activates biodefense system, such as induction of the synthesis of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and glutathione peroxidase. We studied the possibility for alleviation of oxidative damage, such as diabetes and nonalcoholic liver disease. Results show that low-dose γ-irradiation increases SOD activity and protects against alloxan diabetes. Prio...

In vitro and in vivo studies have shown that carbon monoxide (CO) has both anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant capacities. Since chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is characterised by inflammation and oxidative stress, low-dose CO could be of therapeutic use. The aim of the present study was to investigate the feasibility and anti-inflammatory effects of 100-125 ppm CO inhalation in pa...

Chronic inhalation bioassays in rodents are used to assess pulmonary carcinogenicity for purposes of hazard identification and potentially for risk characterization. The influence of high experimental doses on tumor development has been recognized for some time and has led to the concept of maximum tolerated dose (MTD) for dose selection, with the highest dose being at the MTD. Exposure at the ...

The mysterious death of Mr. Alexander Litvinenko who was most possibly poisoned by Polonium-210 ((210)Po) in November 2006 in London attracted the attention of the public to the kinetics, dosimetry and the risk of this high radiotoxic isotope in the human body. In the present paper, the urinary excretion of seven persons who were possibly exposed to traces of (210)Po was monitored. The values m...
