Research on the barriers and limits to climate change adaptation identifies many factors, but describes few processes whereby adaptation is constrained or may indeed fail to avoid catastrophic losses. It often assumes that barriers are by and large distinct from limits to adaptation. We respond to recent calls for comparative studies that are able to further knowledge about the underlying drive...

The objective of this work is to analyze at a regional scale the hydrometeorological and hydrological characteristics of the Esteros del Ibera, a vast freshwater wetland located in NE Argentina. Since water is the main driving force in the inland wetlands and variations in water level impose conditions on the behavior of vegetation and animal populations, the knowledge of the main hydrometeorol...

Wetlands, and specially salt marshes, represent the final stage of the filling of depressions, embayments, levelling of marine delta plains and other depositional environments. Due to their origin, they are porous media, with high permeability, permanently flooded, or with very shallow oscillating groundwater table. They are rich in wildlife and among the most primary producers environments in ...

A ranavirus (RV) was isolated from Chinese giant salamanders (Andrias davidianus) in China in 2010 and provisionally designated Andrias davidianus ranavirus (ADRV). The complete genome sequence is 106,719 nucleotides long. Genomic sequence and phylogenetic analyses showed that ADRV has a high degree of conservation with other RVs.

Inland wetlands are of the most important natural terrestrial types of water resources. Against its importance in protecting and improving biodiversity, air quality and macro-climatic condition of their regions, industrial development, and urbanization treat their natural existence and behavior. Therefore, monitoring and quality evaluation of wetlands are necessary to analyze and infer their na...

The Ramsar wetland sites are important habitats for biodiversity and provide ecological services to communities that otherwise have no access water resources. In Kenya, some wetlands more prominent recognized worldwide as tourist hot spots, biodiversity-rich zones wildlife habitats. However, these face overexploitation degradation from surrounding communities. efforts halt underlying threats th...

Developing multi-metric indices (MMIs) as a tool for inland water ecosystem assessment has attracted the attention of global scientific community. The number studies, which developed macroinvertebrate-based wetlands, however, was very limited. Thus, more work is needed to refine and implement it depending on ecological contexts wetlands. On top this, we based macroinvertebrate assemblages that ...

Using multi-temporal European Remote-sensing Satellites (ERS-1/-2) and Canadian Radar Satellite (RADARSAT-1) synthetic aperture radar (SAR) data over the Louisiana coastal zone, we characterize seasonal variations of radar backscattering according to vegetation type. Our main findings are as follows. First, ERS-1/-2 and RADARSAT-1 require careful radiometric calibration to perform multi-tempora...
