Background: One of the most important metabolic factors affecting the reproductive activity is insulin-like growth factor-I (IGFI) concentration changes after calving. Recently, Maj et al. (2008) discovered a significant association between the IGF-I genotypes based on the 5'-untranslatedregion (5'-UTR) of IGF-I gene and the IGF-I blood level. The objective of this study is to investi...

The insulin-like growth factor I (IGF-I) receptor (IGF-1R) is overexpressed in most human neoplasms tested so far. Many tumors in young patients produce high levels of the IGF-1R ligands, IGF-I and IGF-II. Given the complexity of the IGF signaling pathway, its complete inhibition may require combination therapies with antibodies targeting both IGF-1R and IGF-II.

Insulin-like growth factor-I (IGF-I) has been reported previously to promote the proliferation, survival, and maturation of sympathetic neuroblasts, the genesis of retinal neurons, and the survival of CNS projection and motor neurons. Here we asked whether IGF-I could promote the in vitro differentiation of postmitotic mammalian CNS neuronal precursors derived from multipotent epidermal growth ...

Diabetes is a common endocrine disease with complications such as retinopathy, nephropathy and neuropathy which has its monitoring through biomarkers desirable. At present, glycosylated hemoglobin (HbAic) is used for monitoring the long term control of glucose levels in diabetic patients. However, absence of a standardized range, has led to investigations that recently have suggested insulin-li...

The present study investigated the effects of a functional deficit in insulin-like growth factor-I signaling via chronic intravenous administration of insulin-like growth factor-I (IGF-I) receptor antisense in the conscious spontaneously hypertensive rat cardiovascular system. Insulin-like growth factor-I receptor (IGF-IR) antisense, but not full mismatch treatment, decreased IGF-IR expression ...

Insulin/insulin-like growth factor-I (IGF-I) pathways are recognized as critical signaling pathways involved in the control of lifespans in lower organisms to mammals. Caloric restriction (CR) reduces plasma concentration of insulin, growth hormone (GH), and IGF-I. CR retards various age-dependent disorders such as nuerodegenerative diseases and extends lifespan in laboratory rodents. These ben...

Background :-Breast cancer is responsible for the death of millions of women worldwide every year. It is widespread in the world and Iraq that become a genuine problem for public health. The etiology of the disease is unknown. Genetic and hormonal factors are involved in the development of breast cancer and progression of the disease. Insulin like growth factor-ӏ (IGF-ӏ) have been implicated as...

The insulin-like growth factor pathway plays a central role in the normal and abnormal growth of tissues; however, nutritional determinants of insulin-like growth factor I (IGF-I) and its binding proteins in healthy individuals are not well defined. Three test diets-high-fat diet (40% energy as fat), low-fat diet (LF; 20% energy as fat), and a diet with low fat and high omega-3 fatty acid (LFn3...
