OBJECTIVE Evaluate safety and reliability of internal fixator for the treatment of intra-articular and periarticular distal femur fractures. METHODS Retrospective data evaluation of 28 patients with 29 fractures fixed with internal fixator was performed. There was a predominance of male patients (53.5%), with 52% of open wound fractures, 76% of AO33C type fractures, and a mean follow up of 21...
Cadaveric experiments in 10 knees were used to study the strength of two methods of internal fixation for a fractured patella. A modified AO tension band technique was compared with the combination of cerclage wiring and a tension band used at Pyrford. The repairs were stressed to failure; the combination of cerclage and tension band wiring proved to be significantly stronger and is recommended.
INTRODUCTION There is very limited literature describing the association of lateral condyle mass (LCM) fracture of the distal humerus associated concurrently with olecranon fracture. Herein, a case is reported of a displaced LCM fracture with displaced olecranon fracture, due to complex trauma while getting out of a vehicle, which was managed by open reduction and internal fixation. CASE PRES...
A 53-year-old man presented with an open fracture of the pisiform after a fall on his left wrist. Treatment of the patient presented a dilemma between excision of the proximal fragment and internal fixation. The patient underwent internal fixation with a 2.5 cortical screw. At 6 months follow-up the fracture appeared fully consolidated with full functional recovery of the wrist.
Stress fracture of the carpal scaphoid is very rare. We present stress fracture of the scaphoid in an adolescent gymnast who was treated with internal fixation. Key pointsThere is a risk of stress fracture of the scaphoid in gymnast.Internal fixation with a screw is one of the good options for stress fracture of the scaphoid.
Open reduction and internal fixation of the isolated tibial lateral plateau posterior fractures using direct posterior split gastrocnemius approach is a safe and effective method.
OBJECTIVE Internal fixation devices are commonly used in the surgical treatment of many orthopedic conditions. Their prolonged presence, however, has been associated with potential complications. Many surgeons advocate the routine removal of internal fixation in the pediatric age group. In this report we present our experience with removal of internal fixation in pediatric patients and evaluate...
PURPOSE To construct a questionnaire to assess outcomes in patients who underwent internal fixation for acetabular fractures. METHODS 27 female and 100 male consecutive patients (mean age, 50 years) who underwent internal fixation for acetabular fractures were included. Patients were asked to report their outcomes at months 6, 12, and 24 using a questionnaire. The initial questionnaire was co...
INTRODUCTION Correct choice of osteosynthesis method is a very important factor in providing the optimal conditions for appropriate healing of the fracture. There are still disagreements about the method of stabilization of some long bone fractures. Critically observed, no method of fracture fixation is ideal. Each osteosynthesis method has both advantages and weaknesses. OBJECTIVE The object...
Bicondylar coronal plane fracture, eponymically named Hoffa fractures, is an extremely rare injury. We present a case of isolated unilateral bicondylar Hoffa fracture that was successfully treated with open reduction and internal fixation using headless compression screws with satisfactory results. We inserted posteroanteriorly oriented Acutrak screws perpendicular to the fracture plane via lat...
