We report a case of pulmonary hyalinizing granuloma (PHG) with laryngeal and subcutaneous involvement. A 43-year-old man was admitted to our hospital for assessment of hoarseness. Cervical and chest computed tomography, respectively, revealed a laryngeal tumor and two pulmonary masses. Specimens obtained from the pulmonary masses were compatible with PHG. The histopathology of biopsy specimens ...
INTRODUCTION Acute laryngeal lesions after intubation appear to be precursors of chronic lesions. OBJECTIVE To describe the incidence and type of acute laryngeal lesions after extubation in a pediatric intensive care unit (PICU). METHODS A cohort study involving children from birth to <5 years, submitted to intubation for more than 24h in the PICU of an university hospital. In the first eig...
Aim of this prospective preliminary study was to assess effectiveness and reliability of autofluorescence endoscopy in the diagnosis of laryngeal lesions, in particular, evaluating whether it could represent an improvement in comparison to standard endoscopy alone. A total of 81 laryngeal biopsy specimens, taken from 46 consecutive patients who underwent intra-operative endoscopic assessment in...
Introduction: Laryngeal dysfunction may be divided into three categories; organic, neurologic and functional disorders. Dysphonia and hoarseness are the most common symptoms and, in some cases, the only signs of laryngeal dysfunction. In differential diagnosis of any type of chronic hoarseness, a neoplastic process must be considered and, thus continuous light video laryngoscopy can provide imp...

as merely a possible pathological curiosity, the existence of which can only be determined by a ftost-mortsm examination thus for all practical purposes primary laryngeal tuberculosis is non-existent, and hence we should only consider laryngeal manifestations of tuberculosis as complications of preexisting, or at any rate co-existing, pulmonary lesions. Furthermore, I would state at the outset ...
We report a case of recurrent laryngeal nerve palsy caused by coalworkers' pneumoconiosis with progressive massive fibrosis (PMF). This illustrates that PMF alone may be added to the list of lesions which can cause recurrent laryngeal nerve palsy. However, efforts should always be made to exclude more common causes, in particular bronchogenic carcinoma, before attributing the palsy to PMF.
We present a case report of a 66-year-old female with a laryngeal saccular cyst that was treated endoscopically. Although this is an uncommon laryngeal anomaly, when it is recognized and managed appropriately early in the course of its presentation patient complications and morbidity can be avoided. The laryngeal saccular cyst can mimic or be associated with other, more serious, laryngeal patho...
A case of cervico-mediastinal venous haemangioma with diffuse upper respiratory airway involvement is reported. The lesion was considered to be an ordinary supraglottic haemangioma at first. We recommend that adult cases of laryngeal haemangioma should be carefully examined for extra-laryngeal lesions.
