Interstitial cell tumor of the testis in an adult male can present with feminization and psychologic changes. The feminization and psychologic changes most likely reflect production of estrogen by the interstitial cell tumor. Removal of the tumor causes rapid return of the pituitary-testicular axis to normal, loss of feminization, and development of male psychosocial characteristics.
Leydig cell testicular tumors are a rare cause of precocious pseudopuberty in boys. Surgery is the main therapy and shows good overall prognosis. The physical signs of precocious puberty are expected to disappear shortly after surgical removal of the mass. We report two children, 7.5 and 7.7 year-old boys, who underwent testis-sparing surgery for a Leydig cell testicular tumor causing precociou...
within 3 days after beginning DES treatment and develop a high proportion of malignant interstitial cell tumors when treated with the estrogen for periods of 7 months or longer. Comparable preparations were made from untreated animals of similar ages. The cyt RNA's were then tested for their ability to compete against RNA-3H synthesized on mouse DNA in vitro, using both "presaturation" and simu...
The effects of ovine interstitial cell-stimulating hormone (ICSH), ovine prolactin, or bovine growth hormone (BGH) on the growth and fine structure of transplantable Leydig cell tumors have been investigated. The Leydig cell tumor was capable of growth in the hypophysectomized mouse as well as in the intact mouse treated with rabbit antisera to ICSH. The ultrastructure of the Leydig cell was al...
Sertoli-Leydig cell tumor of ovary is a rare type of sex-cord stromal tumor. Only few case reports are published in the literature. The majority of the cases occur in young women and are benign and unilateral in location. Nearly, 30-40% of the patients present symptoms and signs of virilization. In most of the cases, histopathologically, the degree of differentiation is intermediate or poor. Ma...
Sertoli and Leydig cells, the two major somatic cell types in the testis, have different morphologies and functions. Both are essential for gonad development and spermatogenesis. However, whether these cells are derived from the same progenitor cells and the mechanism regulating the differentiation between these two cell types during gonad development remains unclear. A previous study showed th...
gastrointestinal stromal tumors (gist) are the most common mesenchymal tumors of the gastrointestinal tract. the biological pattern of these tumors ranges from benign-appearing small lesions to malignant sarcomas. only 3%-5% of gists are found in the duodenum. a duodenal gist is a rare source of upper gastrointestinal bleeding. a remarkable percentage of duodenal gists are localized in the thi...
cancer cell-stromal cell interaction plays a crucial role in the growth and invasion of tumor cells of various organs. it has been recently suggested that adipocytes and preadipocytes, two specific types of stromal cells, affect the biological behavior of variety of breast cancer cell lines. in spite of few investigations, there is a controversy in the literatures about the effects of adipocyte...
