Here we will provide an overview of the method of nding symmetries of partial di erential equations. First we will discuss some basic facts regarding local groups of transformations, symmetries of algebraic equations and group actions on functions. We will then proceed to a discussion of how to interpret the task of solving a PDE in terms of jet spaces, and the meaning of group actions in this ...

We describe herein the parallel implementation of the Bi-CGSTAB method with a block Red-Black Gauss-Seidel (RBGS) preconditioner applied to the systems of linear algebraic equations that arise from the Hermite collocation discretization of partial di erential equations in two spatial dimensions. The method is implemented on the Cray T3E, a parallel processing supercomputer. Speedup results are ...

For linear di erential algebraic equations of tractability index 1 the notion of the adjoint equation is analysed in full detail. Its solvability is shown at the lowest possible smoothness. The fundamental matrices of both equations are de ned and their relationships are characterized.

Transfer functions models of linear systems are a well established tool for the design and analysis of one-dimensional systems. This is not the case for multidimensional physical systems, given in terms of initial boundary value problems. Here, the only mathematical description of widespread use are partial di erential equations. This contribution shows, how the one-dimensional transfer functio...

Three schemes for linearizing the transconductance of the basic di erential pair in subthreshold CMOS are examined: 1) multiple asymmetric di erential pairs, 2) source degeneration via symmetric di usors, and 3) source degeneration via a single di usor. Using a maximally at optimizing criterion, the linear range of the basic di erential pair can be increased by four-to-eight times.

The e¢ cient and accurate calculation of sensitivities of the price of …nancial derivatives with respect to perturbations of the parameters in the underlying model, the so called ‘Greeks’, remains a great practical challenge in the derivative industry. This is true regardless of whether methods for partial di¤erential equations or stochastic di¤erential equations (Monte Carlo techniques) are be...

This work develops fast and adaptive algorithms for numerically solving nonlinear partial di erential equations of the form ut = Lu +N f(u) where L and N are linear di erential operators and f(u) is a nonlinear function. These equations are adaptively solved by projecting the solution u and the operators L and N into a wavelet basis. Vanishing moments of the basis functions permit a sparse repr...

In this work we consider the problem of control of mechanical systems subject to unilateral constraints. Impulsive forces arise whenever the constraints become active and these forces give rise to nonsmooth dynamics. The dynamics of the system is de ned by a set of di erential equations with discontinuous righthand side using Hamilton's equations of motion. A nonlinear transformation is applied...

Comparative analysis of two ideologically distinct approaches in the theory of fuzzy di"erential equations is given. Domains of applications, advantages and shortcomings of those approaches are described. New de2nitions of solutions to fuzzy di"erential equations are proposed. c © 2002 Elsevier Science B.V.
