A model M of cardinality λ is said to have the small index property if for every G ⊆ Aut(M) such that [Aut(M) : G] ≤ λ there is an A ⊆ M with ∣

We present in this paper a peptide matching approach to the multiple comparison of a set of protein sequences. This approach consists in looking for all the words that are common to q of these sequences, where q is a parameter. The comparison between words is done by using as reference an object called a model. In the case of proteins, a model is a product of subsets of the alphabet Σ of the am...

Blass, A. and A. Scedrov, Complete topoi representing models of set theory, Annals of Pure and Applied Logic 57 (1992) l-26. By a model of set theory we mean a Boolean-valued model of Zermelo-Fraenkel set theory allowing atoms (ZFA), which contains a copy of the ordinary universe of (two-valued, pure) sets as a transitive subclass; examples include Scott-Solovay Boolean-valued models and their ...

In this paper we prove that if κ is a cardinal in L[0], then there is an inner model M such that M |= (Vκ,∈) has no elementary end extension. In particular if 0♯ exists then weak compactness is never downwards absolute. We complement the result with a lemma stating that any cardinal greater than א1 of uncountable cofinality in L[0♯] is Mahlo in every strict inner model of L[0♯].

Given a finite model M, it is possible to associate to every sentence φ of Backslash Logic and Dependence Logic the value of the corresponding imperfect information game H(φ). Hodges’ compositional semantics can then be adapted to this new logic, and the value of atomic dependence formulas in the resulting framework is seen to correspond to one of Kivinen and Mannila’s measures of approximate f...

This paper derives consistent standard errors for a panel Tobit model in the presence of correlated errors. The problem is framed in the context of Newey and West (1987), considering the Tobit model as a special case of a GMM estimator. JEL codes: C23, C24

Let M be a finite or countable set of models (here we only deal with finite M but Bayes factors make sense for countable M). For each model m ∈ M we have the prior probability of the model pri(m). It does not matter if this prior on models is unnormalized. Each model m has a parameter space Θm and a prior g(θ | m), θ ∈ Θm The spaces Θm can and usually do have different dimensions. That’s the po...

We suggest an improved GMM estimator for the autoregressive parameter of a spatial autoregressive error model by taking into account that unobservable regression disturbances are different from observable regression residuals.

A formula is a contingent logical truth when it is true in every model M but, for some model M , false at some world of M . We argue that there are such truths, given the logic of actuality. Our argument turns on defending Tarski’s definition of truth and logical truth, extended so as to apply to modal languages with an actuality operator. We argue that this extension is the philosophically pro...
