Urosepsis can progress toward severe sepsis, septic shock, and, ultimately, death. Rapid antimicrobial susceptibility testing is crucial to decrease mortality and morbidity. This report shows that isothermal microcalorimetry can provide an antibiogram within 7 h with a sensitivity of 95% and specificity of 91% using Vitek-2 system as a reference.

abstract background: pseudomonas aeruginosa is one of the most common gram negative bacteria involved in nosocomial infections. presence of extended-spectrum beta-lactamases (esbls) genes, play an important role in induction of resistance in beta-lactamase producing species to beta lactam antibiotics. frequency of resistance to these antibiotics is increasing. in this study, antibiotic sensitiv...

To the Editor: Long term care facilities (LTCFs), especially those with high levels of acuity, often breed high levels of multidrug-resistant organisms (MDROs).1 Facilities should not assume that published rates of MDROs reflect the level of MDROs in their facility. Considerable variation between LTCFs exists.2 Unfortunately, it is our impression that many LTCFs are not tracking or aware of the...

Antimicrobial susceptibility patterns of strains of Escherichia coli isolated between 1994 and 1998 were studied. Of the 1,283 strains examined, 75% were recovered from urine, 8.7% from wounds, 3.2% from blood, 2.6% from pus, and 10.5% from other sources. Isolates from inpatients and outpatients accounted for 46.1% and 53.9%, respectively. Gentamicin and nalidixic acid showed the greatest effic...

Urinary tract infection (UTI) is the most commonly acquired bacterial infection. Antibiotic resistance of uropathogens has been known to increase worldwide and biofilm production being the prime cause. The objective of this study was to detect the production of biofilm by uropathogens isolated from UTIs and their antimicrobial susceptibility pattern. A total 570 urine samples from clinically su...

Background and Objective:  Early diagnosis of Streptococcus agalactiae remains difficult, since symptoms are very nonspecific. Its frequency has not been completely investigated in urinary tract pathogen of pregnant ant and non pregnant women in Iran. The aim of this study was determining the frequency of Group B Streptococci in female patients. Materials and Met...

Background & Aims: Emergence of biofilm producing Proteus strains created a serious problem in the treatment of catheter-associated urinary tract infections. The aim of this research was to study biofilm production and plasmid pattern of proteus strains associated with Urinary tract infection. Methods: A total of 88 strains of Proteus were isolated from samples collected in hospitals of Kerman/...
