Diffractive vector meson photoproduction accompanied by proton dissociation is studied for large momentum transfer. The process is described by the non-forward BFKL equation, for which a complete analytical solution is found. The scattering amplitudes for all combinations of helicity are presented.

We present and use a technique for implementing in a fast way, and without any approximations, higher-order calculations of partonic cross sections into global analyses of parton distribution functions. The approach, which is set up in Mellin-moment space, is particularly suited for analyses of future data from polarized proton-proton collisions at RHIC, but not limited to this case. We also br...

The acceleration of multi-MeV protons from the rear surface of thin solid foils irradiated by an intense (approximately 10(18) W/cm2) and short (approximately 1.5 ps) laser pulse has been investigated using transverse proton probing. The structure of the electric field driving the expansion of the proton beam has been resolved with high spatial and temporal resolution. The main features of the ...

V-type proton-translocating ATPases (V-ATPases) (EC 3.6.1.3) are electrogenic proton pumps involved in acidification of endomembrane compartments in all eukaryotic cells. V-ATPases from various species consist of 8 to 12 polypeptide subunits arranged into an integral membrane proton pore sector (Vo) and a peripherally associated catalytic sector (V1). Several V-ATPase subunits are functionally ...

A new, very forward, proton spectrometer with large acceptance will be installed in the proton beam line of the H1 experiment in 2003. The spectrometer, located 220 m downstream of the interaction point, is based on the Roman Pot technique and consists of two stations in the cold section of the proton beam line. A brief description of this new device and expected physics results are presented.

Proton beam writing (PBW) is a new direct-writing process that uses a focused beam of MeV protons to pattern resist material at nano dimensions. PBW has the unique ability to maintain a straight path through 50 lm thick resist films, and is suitable for high aspect ratio micro(nano)-machining. TADEP resist is a new promising high aspect ratio chemically-amplified resist that can be developed in...

One of the key component of the Neutrino Factory under study at CERN is the muon cooling channel based on ionization cooling. To explore the parameter-space and the efficiency of the design proposed at CERN, a muon cooling experiment. This note reports a possible layout of a transfer line delivering a primary proton beam onto a target to generate the muon beam. The details of the new transfer l...
