Canine hypospadias is a rare condition that can occur in male and female dogs. Affected animals may present signs of urinary incontinence, recurrent urinary tract infections, periurethral dermatitis or can remain asymptomatic. Periurethral hypospadias in a 14-week-old mongrel dog and its surgical repair are addressed.

The hemogram and biochemical profiles were within normal limits. Radiologicexamination revealed a radiolucent zone in the metaphyses and a radiopaque band near the physes of theappendi...
A growing number of studies have explored the oxytocin system in humans and non-human animals, and some have found important genetic polymorphisms in the oxytocin receptor gene (OXTR) associated with the bonding system, social behaviors, and personality in several species. Although single nucleotide polymorphisms in OXTR have been well-examined in various species, microsatellites (or short tand...
Pancreaticoduodenal transplantation was performed with cyclosporine and steroid immunosuppressive therapy in 10 mongrel dogs that had pancreaticoduodenectomy. There was an average animal survival of 50.6 days and an average duration of normoglycemia of 41.8 days. We suggest that pancreaticoduodenal transplantation, which was abandoned as a clinical procedure 10 years ago, be reconsidered for cl...
An experimental model was developed in mongrel puppies to simulate the dilation and hypertrophy found in intestinal atresia. The diameter of the dilated segment was reduced either by antimesenteric resection or by antimesenteric infolding techniques. This study indicates that the infolding technique is better, both structurally and functionally, following artifically induced dilation.
In seven mongrel dogs the syndrome of depression was evoked by bilateral electrolytic lesions in lateral hypothalamus and/or dorsomedial amygdala. The effects of tricyclic antidepressants on general mood, spinal reflexes recorded by electromyographic method, and head rate were tested. The reactivity to most external stimuli was increased and general depression was slightly reduced.
