BACKGROUND Myocarditis is characterized by inflammatory cell infiltration of the heart and subsequent deterioration of cardiac function. Monocytes are the most prominent population of accumulating leucocytes. We investigated whether in vivo administration of nanoparticle-encapsulated siRNA targeting chemokine (C-C motif) receptor 2 (CCR2)-a chemokine receptor crucial for leucocyte migration in ...

Acute myocarditis is a well-known complication of influenza infection. The frequency of myocardial involvement in influenza infection varies widely, with the clinical severity ranging from asymptomatic to fulminant varieties. The worst cases can result in death due to impaired cardiac function, although such fulminant myocarditis associated with influenza infection is rare, as shown by previous...

Japanese spotted fever (JSF) is caused by Rickettsia japonica. Although it induces a variety of complications, acute myocarditis has never been reported as a complication of JSF. We treated a JSF patient who developed acute myocarditis. To our knowledge, this is the first case of JSF complicated with acute myocarditis.

Myocarditis, an inflammatory process affecting the myocardium, may be caused by any bacterial, viral, rickettsial, mycotic, or parasitic organism. In Europe and in the United States, however, most cases of acute myocarditis seem to be caused by viruses. It is often difficult to prove the viral aetiology in cases of myocarditis and such cases are often referred to as idiopathic myocarditis. The ...

BACKGROUND Giant cell myocarditis has rarely been diagnosed premortem, and little is known about its natural history. In addition, no comparative studies with lymphocytic myocarditis exist. METHODS AND RESULTS The clinical features, serial change in left ventricular fraction (LVEF), and outcomes of all patients with histologically verified myocarditis were retrospectively evaluated. Ten patie...

OBJECTIVES The aim of this study was to assess the diagnosis of myocarditis in patients presenting with acute myocardial infarction (MI) and normal coronary angiograms. BACKGROUND Most often in these patients, the etiologic diagnosis remains unclear once they are found to have normal coronary arteries. The diagnosis of myocarditis mimicking MI is clinically relevant, because numerous argument...

Viral myocarditis is caused by a variety of viruses of more than 10 genera, such as coxsackievi‐ rus, adenovirus, parvovirus, hepatitis c virus, herpes virus, influenza virus, HIV, etc. [1]. How‐ ever, the most frequently reported and extensively studied one is coxsackievirus B3 (CVB3), which causes ~30% of all viral myocarditis cases [2]. Thus, in this chapter the review will main‐ ly focus on...

BACKGROUND Viral myocarditis, which is most prevalently caused by Coxsackievirus B3 (CVB3) infection, is a serious clinical condition characterized by cardiac inflammation. However, efficient therapies targeting inflammation are still lacking and much needed. A20, also known as tumor necrosis factor alpha induced protein 3 (TNFAIP3) is a key negative regulator of inflammation. But whether A20 m...

The aim of the current study was to investigate Fas and FasL expression and myocardial cell apoptosis in viral myocarditis patients. Human heart specimens were selected from patients who were autopsied between February 2012 and February 2015; of these, 25 patients were diagnosed with viral myocarditis. Another 15 cases with no diagnosis of myocarditis were selected for the control group. All ti...
