We demonstrate an intense broadband terahertz (THz) source based on the interaction of relativistic-intensity femtosecond lasers with aligned copper nanorod array targets. For copper nanorod targets with a length of 5 μm, a maximum 13.8 times enhancement in the THz pulse energy (in ≤20 THz spectral range) is measured as compared to that with a thick plane copper target under the same laser cond...

The plasmon coupling between metal nanocrystals can lead to large plasmon shifts, enormous electric field enhancements, and new plasmon modes. Metal nanorods, unlike spherical ones, possess a transverse and a longitudinal plasmon mode owing to their geometrical anisotropy. Consequently, the plasmon coupling between metal nanorods is much more complicated than that between nanospheres. For the l...

A feasible mechanism for catalystand template-free group III-nitride nanorod growth by hydride vapor phase epitaxy (HVPE) is proposed. The mechanism is composed of random nanoparticle nucleation from growth conditions—growth temperature and Cl/group III ratio—based on the proposed mechanism, and the computed values showed good agreement with reported experimental results. The involvement of a g...

3D plasmonic chiral colloids are synthesized through deterministically grouping of two gold nanorod AuNRs on DNA origami. These nanorod crosses exhibit strong circular dichroism (CD) at optical frequencies which can be engineered through position tuning of the rods on the origami. Our experimental results agree qualitatively well with theoretical predictions.

The detection of molecules at an ultralow level by Surface-Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy (SERS) has recently attracted enormous interest for various applications especially in biological, medical, and environmental fields. Despite the significant progress, SERS systems are still facing challenges for practical applications related to their sensitivity, reliability, and selectivity. To overcome th...

Efficient solar driven photoelectrochemical (PEC) response by enhancing charge separation has attracted great interest in the hydrogen generation application. The formation of one-dimensional ZnO nanorod structure without bundling is essential for high efficiency in PEC response. In this present research work, ZnO nanorod with an average 500 nm in length and average diameter of about 75 nm was ...

Heteronanostructured zinc oxide nanorod (ZnO NR) array are vertically grown on polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) through a hydrothermal method followed by an in situ deposition of silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs) through a photoreduction process. The Ag-ZnO heterostructured nanorods on PDMS are measured with an average diameter of 160 nm and an average length of 2 μm. ZnO NRs measured by high-resolution...

A multilayer TiO(2) nanorod-assembled cloth/nanorod array based electrode was fabricated by transferring different layers of TiO(2) nanorod-assembled cloth (TNRC) onto nanorod array grown on the conducting FTO substrate (titania nanorod, TNR). Combining the superior electron transport characteristics of TNR and outstanding optical properties of TNRC, the nanostructured electrode composed of two...

A multicomponent nanostructure comprising of gold nanorod-nanoparticle (AuNR-AuNP) composites was fabricated to detect thrombin at subnanomolar concentrations in diluted human blood serum. Simulation and experiments revealed that the strong electromagnetic coupling resonance at the nanorod-nanoparticle junction of these probes can be used to construct highly sensitive SERS aptasensors.

(001)-oriented monoclinic nanorod and microplate WO3 films are fabricated on commercial FTO-coated glass substrates by a rubbing seed layer and a spin-coating seed layer assisted by hydrothermal reactions. The nanorod film obtained by the rubbing seed layer assisted by hydrothermal reactions is more regular and perpendicular to the substrate.
