The kidneys represent one of the main targets of ochratoxin A (OTA), a secondary fungal metabolite that is produced by certain species of Aspergillus and Penicillium. OTA has the ability to disturb Madin-Darby canine kidney (MDCK) cell pH homeostasis, leading to intracellular alkalinization and morphological alterations resembling those that occur when MDCK cells are exposed to transient alkali...

Ochratoxin A (OTA) is a widespread nephrotoxin excreted to a substantial degree via the kidney. Previously we showed that [3H]OTA can be reabsorbed along the rat nephron in vivo (Zingerle et al., 1997). In this study we investigated in detail the contribution of different nephron segments to [3H]OTA reabsorption and determined the possible mechanisms involved by microinfusion and microperfusion...

Ochratoxin-A (OTA), is toxic secondary metabolite and is found to be a source of vast range of toxic effects like hepatotoxicity, nephrotoxicity. However, the information available currently regarding neurotoxic effects exerted by OTA is scanty. Hence, the present study was aimed to evaluate the neurotoxic effects of OTA and the possible mechanisms of toxicity as well as the role of cytotoxic o...

The apparently high yield of testis tumors (25%) in rats exposed long-term to Ochratoxin A (OTA) is uninterpretable without data on tumor yield in unexposed rats. Conversely, our demonstration that prenatal exposure to OTA induces DNA adducts in the testes of newborn mice and the absence of these adducts in the testes of mice not exposed prenatally to OTA, is evidence for the presumptive carcin...

Ochratoxin A (OTA) is a mycotoxin involved in the development of chronic nephropathies and a known carcinogen. As we have shown previously, OTA activates mitogen-activated protein kinases [extracellular signal-regulated kinase 1 and 2 (ERK1/2), c-jun amino-terminal kinase (JNK), and extracellular-regulated protein kinase 38 (p38)] in proximal tubular cells (opossum kidney and normal rat kidney ...

This paper presents a 6 transistor fully differential dualended low-voltage (ULV) FGUVMOS operational transconductance amplifier (FGUVMOS-OTA), and a Gm-C filter where the FGUVMOS-OTA is used. The OTA has rail-torail operation. A basic Gm-C filter implemented with the OTA is presented. The cut-off frequency of the filter is tunable over almost 6 decades with a supply voltage below 1V.

The aim of the present study was to evaluate the effect of long-term cyanidin 3-O-β-D-glucoside (C3G) and/or Ochratoxin A (OTA)-exposure on dimethylarginine dimethylamino hydrolase/nitric oxide synthase (DDAH/NOS) pathway in rats. The experiments were performed in rats supplemented with C3G (1 g/kg feed), OTA (200 ppb), and OTA + C3G. After 4 weeks of daily treatment, liver and kidneys were pro...

Ochratoxin A (OTA) is a fungal metabolite that occurs in foods, beverages, animal tissues, human blood and presents carcinogenic, teratogenic and nephrotoxic properties. This study concerns the redox properties of OTA using electrochemical techniques which have the potential for providing insights into the biological redox reactions of this molecule. The in situ evaluation of the OTA interactio...

Ochratoxin A (OTA) is a mycotoxin with a main nephrotoxic activity contaminating several foodstuffs. In the present report, five soil samples collected from OTA-contaminated vineyards were screened to isolate microorganisms able to biodegrade OTA. When cultivated in OTA-supplemented medium, OTA was converted in OTα by 225 bacterial isolates. To reveal clonal relationships between isolates, mole...

Ochratoxin A (OTA) is a mycotoxin produced by secondary metabolism of several fungi belonging to the genera Aspergillus and Penicillium. OTA is potentially nephrotoxic, neurotoxic, immunotoxic and carcinogenic in several animal species and in humans. This toxin has been detected in several human food and animal feed. The aim of this study was to determine OTA in blood samples of healthy and aff...
