M. P. Searle's recent paper in the Journal of Structural Geology (Searle 1986) included a major departure from published structural interpretations of the Ladakh Himalaya. The geologic history of Ladakh is a vital key to understanding the timing and sequence of events during the Himalayan orogeny. Ophiolitic rocks and island arc volcanics along the Indus Suture zone (Frank et al. 1977, and many...

new evidence gained by the study of foraminifera from khuzestan province in southwest iran reveals that the basal limit of the genus heterostegina is not restricted to the eocene epoch. by introducing a new species of this genus (h. rezvaninejadi), this study shows that the early appearance of this genus should be lowered down further still, at least, into the middle paleocene.

The Sheep Creek camp straddles the eastern boundary o' the Kootenay arc. This arcuate belt of deformed and meta morphosed rocks has had a complex history of Mesozoic ant1 Paleocene compressional and transpressional defo!nnatiol~ overprinted by Eocene extensional tectonics. The rocks an: believed to represent both a distal continental margin and part of a late Paleozoic to early Mesozoic back-ar...

The oxygen isotopic composition of calcite from carbonate rocks of the lower unit of the Flagstaff formation (Paleocene) exposed along the western margin of the Wasatch Plateau, Utah, is about 7 per mil lower than that of coexisting dolomite, suggesting that isotopic equilibration of these two minerals can occur at relatively low temperatures. Unlike recent isotopic evidence presented by Degens...
