In the solvent free oxidation of benzyl alcohol, using supported gold-palladium nanoalloys, toluene is often one of major by-products and it is formed by the disproportionation of benzyl alcohol. Gold-palladium catalysts on acidic supports promote both the disproportionation of benzyl alcohol and oxidative dehydrogenation to form benzaldehyde. Basic supports completely switch off disproportiona...

Fluorescent aggregates formed by self-assembly of a hexaphenylbenzene based derivative serve as a reactor and a stabilizer for the formation of ferromagnetic iron oxide (α-Fe2O3) nanoparticles in aqueous medium at room temperature. These α-Fe2O3 nanoparticles showed excellent catalytic activity in palladium, copper and amine free Sonogashira cross coupling reactions and also in photocatalytic d...

Monodisperse butylphenyl-functionalized palladium (Pd-BP, dia. 2.24 nm) nanoparticles were synthesized through co-reduction of butylphenyldiazonium and H(2)PdCl(4) by NaBH(4). Because of this unique surface functionalization and a high specific electrochemical surface area (122 m(2) g(-1)), the Pd-BP nanoparticles exhibited a mass activity ∼4.5 times that of commercial Pd black for HCOOH electr...

A simple and convenient method for the preparation of ultra-small palladium nanoparticles (Pd-NPs) by a modified digestive ripening method is described. These nanoparticles catalyse the hydrogenation of the terminal alkyne groups to alkanes selectively, and show no effect on other labile protecting and internal alkyne or internal/external alkene groups present in the molecule.

Plasmid DNA can be used as a template to yield gold, palladium, silver, and chromium nanoparticles of different sizes based on variations in incubation time at 70 °C with gold phosphine complexes, with the acetates of silver or palladium, or chromium acetylacetonate. The employment of mild synthetic conditions, minimal procedural steps, and aqueous solvents makes this method environmentally gre...

We describe a solid polyphenylene support that serves as an excellent platform for metal-catalyzed reactions that are normally carried out under homogeneous conditions. The catalyst is synthesized by palladium-catalyzed Suzuki coupling which directly results in formation of palladium nanoparticles confined to a porous polyphenylene network. The composite solid is in turn highly active for furth...

Carbon-supported gold nanoparticles (Au/C) are successfully decorated with monoor sub-monolayer palladium atoms with different Pd/Au atomic ratios by a chemically epitaxial seeded growth method. TEM, UV–vis spectrometry and XRD techniques are used to characterize the particle size, dispersion, palladium coverage on gold seeds and crystal structures of the prepared catalysts. Cyclic voltammetric...

Palladium nanoparticles (PdNPs) were conveniently prepared in tetraglyme (TG) solution using a variety of palladium precursors. At 140 °C, TG promoted Pd(3)(OAc)(6) to produce irregular shaped PdNPs with an average size of 4 nm. When these PdNPs were re-dispersed in TG and used for the dehydrogenation of ammonia borane (AB) at 85 °C, remarkably enhanced catalytic performance was achieved to rel...

Unsupported thiolate-capped palladium nanoparticle catalysts are found to be highly substrate-selective for alkene hydrogenation and isomerization. Steric and poisoning effects from thiolate ligands on the nanoparticle surface control reactivity and selectivity by influencing alkene adsorption and directing either di-σ or mono-σ bond formation. The presence of overlapping p orbitals and α proto...

A palladium nanoparticle decorated carbon nanotube was designed as a label for preparation of a highly sensitive disposable immunosensor. The immunosensor was constructed by assembling the capture antibody on gold nanoparticles decorated graphene nanosheets modified screen printed carbon working electrode. With a sandwich immunoassay mode, the palladium nanoparticle decorated carbon nanotubes w...
