In this case, we would like to introduce a case with intrathyroidal parathyroid adenoma in which planar Tc-99m scintigraphy and intraoperative gamma probe were insufficient but single photon emission computed tomography imaging and intraoperative parathyroid hormone measurement were helpful in localizing the adenoma.

OBJECTIVE Minimal invasive parathyroidectomy (MIP) is a common surgical technique for the treatment of primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT) and is usually done in conjunction with positive imaging techniques. We aimed to assess the results of this technique, performed without the use of intraoperative tests, in cases with PHPT caused by a single parathyroid adenoma. MATERIAL AND METHODS The dat...

Targeted endoscopic parathyroidectomy without gas insufflation is a relatively non-invasive means of discovering and resecting parathyroid adenomas in sporadic primary hyperparathyroidism. This standardized technique depends on the quality of the preoperative imaging: cervical ultrasound and sestamibi scintigraphy, and can be optimized by preoperative insertion of an ultrasound-guided "harpoon"...

HYPOTHESIS Preoperative parathyroid and thyroid imaging using technetium Tc 99m sestamibi scintigraphy-single-photon emission computed tomography (Tc 99m MIBI SPECT) and technetium Tc 99m sodium pertechnetate, respectively, in patients with parathyroid adenomas and concomitant multinodular goiters enables the selection of those suitable for minimally invasive radio-guided surgery. DESIGN One ...

This study was to discuss the surgical diagnosis and treatment experience of primary hyperparathyroidism. Clinical data of 19 primary hyperparathyroidism patients who were treated surgically in our department from Jan. 2005 to Jul. 2014 were retrospectively analyzed. Besides, general data, clinical manifestations, laboratory and imaging test results, surgical procedures and postoperative follow...

Eighty six consecutive thallium-technetium subtraction parathyroid scans performed over a three year period for hypercalcaemia have been evaluated. Twelve had chronic renal failure, 11 had hypercalcaemia due to non-hyperparathyroid causes and in 10 the imaging study was technically inadequate. The remaining 53 technically adequate studies performed for hypercalcaemia clinically thought to be po...

HYPOTHESIS Preoperative clinical, biochemical, and imaging studies could be used to reliably select patients with single-gland primary hyperparathyroidism who could undergo minimally invasive parathyroidectomy and to determine whether additional perioperative testing is necessary. DESIGN Retrospective analysis. SETTING Tertiary referral center. PATIENTS A total of 238 patients who underwe...

Hypersecretion of parathormone in primary hyperparathyroidism is common, occurring in approximately 1 in 500 women and 1 in 2,000 men per year in their fifth to seventh decades of life. This has been suggested from the literature to be primarily the result of a parathyroid adenoma (80-85% of cases), hyperplasia involving more than 1 gland, usually with all 4 glands being involved (10-15% of cas...

The intrathyroidal parathyroid adenomas (IPA) represent a rare cause of primary hyperparathyroidism whose location difficults appropriate surgical removal. We present the case of a patient diagnosed of parathyroid adenoma by presurgical scintigraphy in which finally during the parathyroidectomy, the lesion location was intrathyroidal. We consider that the intrasurgical parathyroid scintigraphy ...

A 33 year old female patient presented with history of body and joint pain easy fatiguability unable to perform her routine daily activities since 2 months. She also gave recurrent urinary tract infections, abdomen, loss appetite weight. Examination neck showed no palpable mass. Laboratory data revealed elevated serum calcium levels parathyroid hormone levels. Contrast enhanced computed tomogra...
