Beet necrotic yellow vein virus (BNYVV) is a member of the genus Benyvirus (21,22) and causes the disease known as rhizomania. It often is reported to be the most important sugar beet (Beta vulgaris L.) virus (17). BNYVV is transmitted by the plasmodiophorid, Polymyxa betae Keskin (1,2,6). In the United States, the virus first was identified in California in 1984 (5) but now occurs in every maj...
Paenibacillus polymyxa CF05 is a Gram-positive rod-shaped bacterium isolated from the interior of an ancient tree, Cryptomeria fortunei, in China. This bacterium displays potent biocontrol effects against certain soil-borne diseases and the elicitation of induced systemic resistance in tomatoes. Here, we report the complete genome sequence of P. polymyxa CF05.
Twenty-nine P. polymyxa strains isolated from rhizospheres of various crops were clustered into five genotypic groups on the basis of BOX-PCR analysis. The characteristics of several plant growth-promoting factors among the isolates revealed the distinct attributes in each allocated group. Under gnotobiotic conditions, inoculation of pepper roots with P. polymyxa isolates significantly increase...
The Bacillus polymyxa CF43 lelA gene, expressing both sucrose and fructan hydrolase activities, was isolated from a genomic library of B. polymyxa screened in Bacillus subtilis. The gene was detected as expressing sucrose hydrolase activity; B. subtilis transformants did not secrete the lelA gene product (LelA) into the extracellular medium. A 1.7-kb DNA fragment sufficient for lelA expression ...
Paenibacillus polymyxa NRRL B-30509 and Paenibacillus terrae NRRL B-30644 produce tridecaptin A that is inhibitory to Campylobacter jejuni, as well as lantibiotics in the paenicidin family. Here, we report the draft genome sequences of P. polymyxa NRRL B-30509 and P. terrae NRRL B-30644 that contain gene clusters for various nonribosomal lipopeptides.
Paenibacillus polymyxa is a potential strain for (R,R)-2,3-butanediol production. Here, we report an annotated draft genome sequence of P. polymyxa strain ATCC 12321, which contains 4,429 protein-coding genes and 49 structural RNAs. This genome sequence provides a genetic basis for a better understanding of the mechanism for the accumulation of highly optically active (R,R)-2,3-butanediol.
Paenibacillus polymyxa OSY-DF is a Gram-positive rod-shaped bacterium isolated from a fermented vegetable food. This bacterial strain displays potent antimicrobial activities against Gram-positive and Gram-negative pathogenic bacteria, attributed to the production of the lantibiotic paenibacillin and the colistin peptide polymyxin E1. Here we report the draft genome sequence of Paenibacillus po...
Activins C and E (homodimers of the betaC and betaE subunits), which are almost exclusively expressed in the liver, are members of the transforming growth factor beta (TGFbeta) superfamily of growth factors. We examined their expression in three different hepatoma cell lines and found that, compared with normal liver or primary hepatocytes, human hepatoblastoma (HepG2), human hepatocellular car...
Lennefors, B-L. 2006. Molecular breeding for resistance to rhizomania in sugar beets. Doctor’s dissertation ISSN: 1652-6880, ISBN: 91-576-7255-5 Rhizomania is one of the most destructive sugar beet diseases. It is caused by Beet necrotic yellow vein virus (BNYVV) vectored by the soilborne protoctist Polymyxa betae Keskin. The studies in this thesis evaluated natural and transgenic resistances t...
The basic aspects of both Boltzmann-Gibbs (BG) and nonextensive statistical mechanics can be seen through three different stages. First, the proposal of an entropic functional (S(BG)=-k Sigma(i)p(i)ln p(i) for the BG formalism) with the appropriate constraints (Sigma(i)p(i)=1 and Sigma(i)p(i)E(i)=U for the BG canonical ensemble). Second, through optimization, the equilibrium or stationary-state...
