ABSTRACT Polymeric polypyrrole and polythiophene solid phase microextraction (SPME) coatings were prepared using electropolymerization with a linear sweep voltammetry technique. Physicochemical properties were measured using different methods, in particular small angle X-ray scattering and scanning electron microscopy. By using innovative approaches for pore size measurement, we were able to ca...
Zirconia ceramics with porous structure have been prepared by solid-state reaction using yttria-stabilized zirconia and stearic acid powders. Analysis of its microstructure and phase composition revealed that a pure zirconia phase can be obtained. Our results indicated that its porosity and pore size as well as the mechanical characteristics can be tuned by changing the content of stearic acid ...
Measurements of porosity and pore size distribution provide important data on the physical properties of soils. This paper presents a digital image method for the analysis of soil pores. In the analysis of soil thin sections, the image threshold separating pore space from the surrounding solid, as well as the capillary pore size threshold separating air pores and capillary pores, was obtained b...
Fluid flow in, and the thermal, electrical, and acoustic properties of porous media are determined primarily by the geometry and topology of the pore system. Here we illustrate a stochastic 3D space reconstruction model that uses thin section images as its main input. The approach involves a third-order Markov mesh that creates the reconstruction in a single scan; and overcomes the computationa...
Nanoporous, hypercrosslinked polypyrroles with surface areas of up to 720 m2 g(-1) have been prepared; their pore sizes and gas adsorption selectivities were controlled by varying the size of the crosslinking units.
For a series of metal-organic frameworks with rht topology, we study computationally the effect of the linker length on the surface area, pore size, and pore volume, relating them with the hydrogen adsorption properties. The results provide new insights about the excess capacities and the pressures where the uptake maxima in the excess isotherms occur. We found that, of the materials studied, ...
Binarization process plays an important role in structural characterization by means of micro-CT images analysis. The choice of the correct threshold to separate porous phase from the material is the procedure for binary images creation. Slight variations of the threshold level led to substantial variations in physical parameters determination. The aim of this work is to evaluate these variatio...
Modelling shows that the pore size distribution of microporous carbons determined by NLDFT only hides relatively small variations of the surface-related capacitance C/S between 0.7 and 1.3 nm. This suggests again that C/S in TEABF(4)-AN is 0.09 ± 0.01 F m(-2) for our typical carbons, including carbide-based samples.
A novel kind of miniature boat that might have many potential applications was fabricated from superhydrophobic copper meshes for the first time. These boats not only floated freely on a water surface but also exhibited striking loading capacities. By selection of the pore size of copper meshes, a loading capacity greater than 11.0 g could be readily achieved for a boat of 8.0 cm(3) in volume. ...
