Soil properties play a significant role in phosphorus (P) sorption. Information about P sorption is limited in Hamadan soils. The objectives of this research were to study the P sorption in twelve soils of Hamadan, assess the capability of different kinetics equations describing P sorption and correlate the P sorption characteristics with the soil properties. The soils were fertilized with 20...

The contrast dependence of perceived depth was quantified through a series of depth matching experiments. Perceived depth was found to be a power law function of contrast. In addition, subjects exhibited a large uncrossed depth bias indicating that low contrast test patterns appeared much farther away than high contrast patterns of equal disparity. For disparities in the range of +/- 4.0 arc mi...

This paper aims to explore the human mobility pattern by using taxi positioning data in the city of ‎Isfahan. Results show that Lognormal yields the most suitable fit to the data at hand which has ‎been collected from 53000 records throughout Isfahan in a week. Power law did not show ‎acceptable performance and exponential function did not function as good as Lognormal. It was ‎also shown that ...

In blinking surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS), probability distributions of the bright and dark events against their duration times are reproduced by a power-law without and with an exponential function, respectively. The truncation at the tail of the power-law suggests not only a potential well but also an energy barrier during a single molecule optical trapping onto the junction.

We constructed an analog electrical circuit which generates fluctuations in which probability density function has power law tails. In the circuit fluctuations with an arbitrary exponent of the power law can be obtained by adjusting the resistance. With this low cost circuit the random fluctuations which have the similar statistics to foreign exchange rates can be generated as fast as an expens...

We discuss a mechanism through which inversion symmetry (i.e., invariance of a joint probability density function under the exchange of variables) and Gibrat’s law generate power-law distributions with different tail exponents. Using a dataset of firm size variables, that is, tangible fixed assets K, the number of workers L, and sales Y , we confirm that these variables have power-law tails wit...

We study the nonconserved phase-ordering dynamics of the d=2,3 random-field Ising model, quenched to below the critical temperature. Motivated by the puzzling results of previous work in two and three dimensions, reporting a crossover from power-law to logarithmic growth, together with superuniversal behavior of the correlation function, we have undertaken a careful investigation of both the do...

Whether there are universal laws or principles in complex systems is a fascinating and important question. Prof. John Casti uses the case of Normal Distribution (\bell curves") to illustrate that such universal principle is perhaps out there waiting to be discovered [1]. He suggests Zipf's law as a candidate for such universal principle. But as the author of one of the three publications to pro...
