Spatial patterns as well as temporal dynamics of soil moisture have a major influence on runoff generation. The investigation of these dynamics and patterns can thus yield valuable information on hydrological processes, especially in data scarce or previously ungauged catchments. The combination of spatially scarce but temporally high resolution soil moisture profiles with episodic and thus tem...

The study of frameworks and formalisms for reasoning about action and change [67, 58, 61, 65, 70, 3, 57] has been central to the knowledge representation field almost from the inception of Artificial Intelligence as a general field of research [52, 56]. The phrase “Temporal Action Logics” represents a class of logics for reasoning about action and change that evolved from Sandewall’s book on Fe...

Abstract. Briggs (1897) deduced capillary flow from deviation of the equilibrium between capillarity and gravity. Richards (1931) raised to an unproven soil hydrological dogma. Attempts correct dogma led concepts non-equilibrium flow, macropore preferential during infiltration. Viscous film is proposed as alternative approach capillarity-driven unsaturated

OBJECTIVE To explore middle cerebral artery (MCA) and anterior cerebral artery (ACA) blood flow responses to superimposed acute hypoxemia in growth-restricted fetuses with and without established brain-sparing flow during basal conditions. MATERIAL AND METHODS 47 term fetuses suspected of growth restriction were exposed to an oxytocin challenge test with simultaneous cardiotocography and Dopp...

Corrugated structured packings feature strong preferential flow directions due to their structure of crossing triangular channels. This leads to good radial spreading but makes modelling a challenge. Detailed CFD calculations reflecting the exact packing structure are only feasible for small sections of packing. However, effects like large scale maldistribution and instabilities in the flow fie...

Typically agents have obligations of diiering importance. Consequently we give a hierarchical deenition of obligations, according to which an agent's obligations form a coherent hierarchy and new obligations are de-ned with reference to it. We then show how preferential entailment can be used to formalise the persistence and revision of obligation hierarchies.
