Microorganisms, such as Pseudomonas putida, utilize specific physical properties of cellular membrane constituents, mainly glycerophospholipids, to (re-)adjust the membrane barrier to environmental stresses. Building a basis for membrane composition/function studies, we inventoried the glycerophospholipids of different Pseudomonas and challenged membranes of growing cells with n-butanol. Using ...
To date, limited reports are available on the regulatory systems exerting control over bacterial synthesis of the biodegradable polyester group known as polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs). In this study, we performed random mini-Tn5 mutagenesis of the Pseudomonas putida CA-3 genome and screened transconjugants on nitrogen-limited medium for reduced PHA accumulation phenotypes. Disruption of a GacS se...
Pseudomonas putida is a gram-negative rod-shaped gammaproteobacterium that is found throughout various environments. Members of the species P. putida show a diverse spectrum of metabolic activities, which is indicative of their adaptation to various niches, which includes the ability to live in soils and sediments contaminated with high concentrations of heavy metals and organic contaminants. P...

Pseudomonas putida strain ND6 is an efficient naphthalene-degrading bacterium. The complete genome of strain ND6 was sequenced and annotated. The genes encoding the enzymes involved in catechol degradation by the ortho-cleavage pathway were found in the chromosomal sequence, which indicated that strain ND6 is able to metabolize naphthalene by the catechol meta- and ortho-cleavage pathways.
Optimum conditions for enrichment of mutants of Pseudomonas putida in liquid culture were established using a procedure which combines N-methyl-N'-nitro-N-nitrosoguanidine mutagenesis with an improved D-cycloserine selection.
The rpoS gene encodes the sigma factor which was identified in several gram-negative bacteria as a central regulator during stationary phase. rpoS gene regulation is known to respond to cell density, showing higher expression in stationary phase. For Pseudomonas aeruginosa, it has been demonstrated that the cell-density-dependent regulation response known as quorum sensing interacts with this r...
