We introduce a practical synchronous stream cipher with provable security named QUAD. The cipher relies on the iteration of a multivariate quadratic system of m equations in n < m unknowns over a finite field. The security of QUAD is provably reducible to the conjectured intractability of the MQ problem, namely solving a multivariate system of quadratic equations.

A quad-double number is an unevaluated sum of four IEEE double precision numbers, capable of representing at least 212 bits of signi cand. We present the algorithms for various arithmetic operations (including the four basic operations and various algebraic and transcendental operations) on quad-double numbers. The performance of the algorithms, implemented in C++, is also presented.

A single-precision floating-point SAR back-projection algorithm has been implemented and optimized on a PlayStation 3 Cell Broadband Engine. The same algorithm was also ported to a server with two Intel Quad-Core Xeons. Speed performance was very similar on the two systems, with performance on the two 1.6GHz Quad-Core Xeons slightly faster than on the 3.2GHz Cell. .
