Actinomyces-associated lesions in the jaw, such as radicular cyst and osteomyelitis, have been reported by many authors. The lesions are caused by infection from peripheral sites and can be seen to contain Actinomyces druses on pathologic examination. To our knowledge, no previous reports have described Actinomyces-associated calcification in the jaw, although the lesions in the jaw often inclu...

Endodontic diagnosis is challenging and depends on the organisation of information from the patient history, clinical examination and analysis of the pulp, radiographic and histopathological assessment. Levels of messenger RNA (mRNA) extracted from five samples of radicular cyst-lining epithelium were analyzed for cytokines, growth factors and epithelial cell growth-related receptors by RT-PCR. All five samples expressed IL-1alpha, -1beta, IL-6, IL-8, IL-11, TGF-beta1, PDGF-A and aFGF, and receptors for EGF (c-erbB), KGF, HGF (c-met) and IL-6. Some of the specimens expressed MIP-1alpha, RANTES...

Radicular cysts are the most common cystic lesions which affect the jaw. They are most common among all the jaw cysts and comprise about 52% to 68% of the entire cysts which affect the human jaw. They are generally symptomless and are diagnosed during routine radiologic investigations. The treatment of radicular cysts includes conventional nonsurgical root canal therapy when lesion is localized...

The nasopalatine cyst is the most common epithelial and nonodontogenic cyst of the maxilla. The cyst originates from epithelial remnants from the nasopalatine duct. The cells may be activated spontaneously during life or are eventually stimulated by the irritating action of various agents (infection, etc.). It is different from a radicular cyst. The definite diagnosis should be based on clinica...
