When a real-valued function of one variable is approximated by its n th degree Taylor polynomial, the remainder is estimated using the Alexiewicz and Lebesgue p-norms in cases where f (n) or f (n+1) are Henstock–Kurzweil integrable. When the only assumption is that f (n) is Henstock–Kurzweil integrable then a modified form of the n th degree Taylor polynomial is used. When the only assumption i...

The semigroup of the homotopy classes of the self-homotopy maps of a finite complex which induce the trivial homomorphism on homotopy groups is nilpotent. We determine the nilpotency of these semigroups of compact Lie groups and finite Hopf spaces of rank 2. We also study the nilpotency of semigroups for Lie groups of higher rank. Especially, we give Lie groups with the nilpotency of the semigr...

On the Automorphism Tower of Free Nilpotent Groups Martin Dimitrov Kassabov 2003 In this thesis I study the automorphism tower of free nilpo-tent groups. Our main tool in studying the automorphism tower is to embed every group as a lattice in some Lie group. Using known rigidity results the automorphism group of the discrete group can be embedded into the automorphism group of the Lie group. Th...

We call (i?) 1 the Lie ring associated with R, and denote it by 9Î. The question of how far the properties of SR determine those of R is of considerable interest, and has been studied extensively for the case when R is an algebra, but little is known of the situation in general. In an earlier paper the author investigated the effect of the nilpotency of 9î upon the structure of R if R contains ...

A finite group $G$ is called rational if all its irreducible complex characters are rational valued. In this paper we discuss about rational groups with Sylow 2-subgroups of nilpotency class at most 2 by imposing the solvability and nonsolvability assumption on $G$ and also via nilpotency and nonnilpotency assumption of $G$.

We show that if μj is the j-th largest Laplacian eigenvalue, and dj is the j-th largest degree (1 ≤ j ≤ n) of a connected graph Γ on n vertices, then μj ≥ dj − j + 2 (1 ≤ j ≤ n− 1). This settles a conjecture due to Guo.

A sharp bound is derived for the nilpotency class of a regular p-group in terms of its coexponent, and is used to show that the number of groups of order pn with a given fixed coexponent, is independent of n, for p and n sufficiently large. Explicit formulae are calculated in the case of coexponent 3.

Suppose that a finite group G admits a Frobenius group of automorphisms FH with kernel F and complement H such that the fixed-point subgroup of F is trivial: CG(F ) = 1. In this situation various properties of G are shown to be close to the corresponding properties of CG(H). By using Clifford’s theorem it is proved that the order |G| is bounded in terms of |H| and |CG(H)|, the rank of G is boun...

This paper presents a general method, based on Galois Theory, for establishing that a problem can not be solved by a ‘machine’ that is capable of the standard arithmetic operations, extraction of radicals (that is, m-th roots for any m) and Singular Value Decomposition, as well as extraction of roots of polynomials of degree smaller than n, but no other numerical operations. The method is appli...
