Toxoplasma gondii is an obligate intracellular protozoon parasite of all the warm blooded animals including birds and humans. It completes a sexual part of its life cycle in the intestinal epithelial cell of the Felidae (definitive host) and an asexual part in warm blooded (intermediate host). Human is an accidental host who contracts infection through handling cat litter and gardening, ingesti...

Recombinant Toxoplasma gondii small heat shock protein HSP20, surface antigen SAG1 and dense granule GRA7 were analyzed by IgG-ELISA with serum samples of Toxoplasma infected humans grouped as I (IgG+, IgM+), II (IgG+, IgM-) and III (IgG-, IgM-). rHSP20 reacted against 80% and 62.5% of serum samples from groups I and II, respectively. rSAG1 was recognized by 85% of the samples from group I and ...

background: the differentiation between acute and latent forms of the toxoplasma gondii ( t. gondii ) infection is still considered as a complicated issue. this study was aimed to elucidate the status of infection in the blood donors and the probable importance of blood transfusion in the transmission of the infection through detecting both immunological and genetic markers of acute and latent ...

Toxoplasmic encephalitis is caused by reactivation of bradyzoites to rapidly dividing tachyzoites of the apicomplexan parasite Toxoplasma gondii in immunocompromised hosts. Diagnosis of this life-threatening disease is problematic, because it is difficult to discriminate between these 2 stages. Toxoplasma PCR assays using gDNA as a template have been unable to discriminate between an increase o...

Toxoplasma gondii is an apicomplexan parasite with a broad host range of most warm-blooded mammals including humans, of which one-thirds of the human population has been infected worldwide which can cause congenital defects, abortion, and neonatal complications. Here, we developed a rapid diagnostic test (RDT) for T. gondii infection. Antigenic N-terminal half of the major surface antigen (SAG1...

The protozoan parasite, Toxoplasma gondii, interconverts between fast-growing tachyzoites and slow-growing bradyzoites within intermediate hosts. The surface of T. gondii is covered by the SAG1-related sequence (SRS) superfamily of glycosyl phosphatidyl inositol-anchored proteins, many of which are stage-specific. Previous transient transfection of BSR4, a member of the SRS superfamily, showed ...

Anti-Neospora caninum antibody was detected in anti-Toxoplasma gondii positive and negative human sera by ELISA, western blot and immunofluorescence assay (IFA). Twelve cases out of 172 (6.7%) Toxoplasma-positive sera cross-reacted with both T. gondii and N. caninum antigens, and one out of 110 Toxoplasma-negative sera reacted with N. caninum antigen by ELISA. By western blot, all 12 sera react...

Toxoplasma gondii SAG1, GRA1, and GRA7 recombinant antigens may be regarded as tools for the detection of T. gondii immunoglobulin G antibodies in persons with chronic and acute toxoplasmosis. GRA7 is more correlated with acute toxoplasmosis. A combination of these antigens will increase the sensitivity of enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays.

Serologic detection of Toxoplasma gondii IgG antibodies is widely accepted as a means to determine immune status and susceptibility to Toxoplasma infection during pregnancy. However, current commercial kits present some drawbacks, such as a requirement for whole-parasite antigen preparation or interassay variability. To address these problems, the purpose of this study was to produce a whole se...
