The running coupling constants are introduced in Quantum Mechanics and their evolution is described by the help of the renormalization group equation. The harmonic oscillator and the propagation on curved spaces are presented as examples. The hamiltonian and the lagrangian scaling relations are obtained. These evolution equations are used to construct low energy effective models.
The Paris power law, which relates fatigue-crack growth rates to the applied stress-intensity range, is an example of a scaling law with the inherent property of incomplete similarity. Previous considerations of dimensions and self-similarity have suggested that the assumed ‘materials constants’ in this law are also a function of specimen size. In this note, the question of the size-dependence ...
The scalar and vector self-energies obtained through QCD sum rules are introduced in Quantum Hadrodynamics (QHD) equations. The results indicate that the ratios of coupling constants to respective meson mass have a very small dependence on density. Then, an extended Brow-Rho scaling law is conjectured.
The double–scaling limit of the supereigenvalue model is performed in the moment description. This description proves extremely useful for the identification of the multi-critical points in the space of bosonic and fermionic coupling constants. An iterative procedure for the calculation of higher–genus contributions to the free energy and to the multi–loop correlators in the double–scaling limi...
We study low-lying multipole strength in neutron-halo nuclei. The strength depends only on a few low-energy constants: the neutron separation energy, the asymptotic normalization coefficient of the bound-state wave function, and the scattering length that contains the information on the interaction in the continuum. The shape of the transition probability shows a characteristic dependence on fe...

The stability and error estimates for the mortar finite element method are well established. This work examines the dependence of constants in these estimates on shape and number of subdomains. By means of a Poincaré inequality and some scaling arguments, these estimates are found not to deteriorate with increase in number of subdomains.
Brane-like vertex operators, defining backgrounds with the ghost-matter mixing in NSR superstring theory, play an important role in a world-sheet formulation of D-branes and M theory, being creation operators for extended objects in the second quantized formalism. In this paper we show that dilaton’s beta function in ghost-matter mixing backgrounds becomes stochastic. The renormalization group ...
Scaling law for the Υ(4S) → B ¯ B and ψ(3770) → D ¯ D decay constants from effective sum rules Abstract Sum rules for exclusive production of heavy meson pairs in e + e − annihilation are used to evaluate the Υ(4S) → B ¯ B and ψ(3770) → D ¯ D decay widths. Infinitely heavy quark limit is discussed, so that scaling law for the quarkonium-meson coupling constant is derived. A value of the B ¯ B p...
