The use of large quantities of common sense has long been thought to be critical to the automated understanding of the world. To this end, various groups have collected repositories of common sense in machinereadable form. However, efforts to apply these large bodies of knowledge to enable correspondingly largescale sensor-based understanding of the world have been few. Challenges have included...

Reasoning about motion is an important part of common sense knowledge . The spatial and qualitative aspects of reasoning about motion through free space are studied through the construction of a program to perform such reasoning. An analog geometry representation serves as a diagram, and descriptions of both the actual motion of a ball and envisioning are used in answering simple questions.

This paper shows some interesting properties of Kleene’s threevalued logic in relation to abductive reasoning. A semantical characterization of abductive explanations is proposed, based on the notion of minimal three-valued model. This establishes a relation between the minimization problem in abductive reasoning and three-valued semantics, in the same sense as non-monotonic reasoning deals wit...

introduction. the aim of medical education is to produce competent , caring physicians. self-confidence is another attribute often considered desirable for physicians. confidence is a key to developing the sense of quantity that has been long recognized as a desirable characteristics of physicians, and confidence has a subjective marker of competence, an analytic descriptive survey was carried ...

We believe that the flexibility and robustness of common sense reasoning comes from analogical reasoning, learning, and generalization operating over massive amounts of experience. Million-fact knowledge bases are a good starting point, but are likely to be orders of magnitude smaller, in terms of ground facts, than will be needed to achieve human-like common sense reasoning. This paper describ...

This paper investigates the challenging problem of encoding the knowledge and reasoning processes involved in the common sense manipulation of physical objects. In particular we provide a formalisation of a domain involving rigid objects, holes and a string within a reasoning about actions and change framework. Therefore, this work investigates the formalisation and reasoning about flexible obj...
