BACKGROUND The present study is aimed to assess the usefulness of silver nitrate staining of nucleolar organizer regions (NORs) as a quantitative criterion for the diagnosis of selected head and neck tumors. MATERIALS AND METHODS The silver nitrate staining technique was used on 195 paraffin blocks collected from 85 patients. The samples consisted of 21 squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) of larynx...

A comparative study in Malva sylvestris L. plants was carried out for change in growth pattern and their anthocyanin production with various induced stress. Exogenous administration of 0.1mM concentration of abscisic acid, silver nitrate as foliar spray for five successive days and supplemental thirty minutes exposure dose of UV-B for continuous three days to the plants significantly induced va...

Topical silver nitrate may be used in oral and maxillofacial clinical settings owing to its astringent, caustic and disinfectant properties. Uses of the toughened silver nitrate pencil stick include haemostasis at bleeding points and for the management of aphthous ulcers, hypergranulation tissue, warts and verrucas. We present an interesting case of apparent silver nitrate-induced, bisphosphona...

Water sorption into resin-dentin interfaces precedes hydrolytic degradation. We hypothesized that these processes are morphologically manifested by the uptake of ammoniacal silver nitrate, which is thought to trace hydrophilic domains and water-filled channels within matrices. Water sorption is thought to be nonuniform and can be traced by the use of silver nitrate. Human teeth bonded with an e...

in this work, we report synthesis of silver nanoplates by a simple reduction process of silver nitrate in the presence of polyvinyl alcohol (pva) and n,n'-dimethyl formamide (dmf). the characterization of the samples were carried out using x-ray diffraction (xrd), transmission-electron microscopy (tem) and uv-vis spectroscopy. absorption spectra of the nanoplates in comparison with that of...

BACKGROUND Neonatal conjunctivitis (ophthalmia neonatorum) continues to cause blindness because the agents used prophylactically to prevent this condition are not completely effective and are not widely available in many parts of the world. Povidone-iodine ophthalmic solution is an effective antibacterial agent with broad antibacterial and antiviral activity to which no bacteria are known to be...

The aim of this research was to synthesize some new silver-cysteamine complexes of potential biological interest. Reactions were carried out between silver nitrate and cysteamine (2-aminoethanethiol hydrochloride) under different conditions of pH and mole ratios of the metal (silver) to the ligand (cysteamine). Some novel silver-cysteamine complexes were made, and after characterization of the ...

Here, we report for the first time on the successful fabrication of monodispersed silver nanocubes with regular shape and controlled size in the solid phase via a novel ion-exchange self-assembly technique by using water-soluble poly(amic acid) salt as the intermediate and silver nitrate as the metal precursor. By simply altering the annealing times at high temperature, the size of the silver n...

The properties of the bactericidal action of silver zeolite as affected by inorganic salts and ion chelators were similar to those of silver nitrate. The results suggest that the contact of the bacterial cell with silver zeolite, the consequent transfer of silver ion to the cell, and the generation of reactive oxygen species in the cell are involved in the bactericidal activity of silver zeolite.
