studies manipulating the source-sink relationships during post anthesis in wheat have shown inconsistent results, concluding that wheat yield could be either sinkor source-limited. the aim of this study was to determine source limitation degree of 36 iranian wheat cultivars andto investigate their intrinsic compensatory mechanism in response to source size reduction. a split plot design based o...

Introduction: Previous studies with numerical collisional models have demonstrated that wave-like departures from traditional, linear power-law equilibrium size distributions can result from a small-size cutoff in the particle population [1–4]. At small sizes, a particle cutoff may result from the rapid removal of bodies by non-gravitational forces such as PoyntingRobertson drag or the Yarkovsk...

plagiarism in esl/efl learning contexts has been established as a dynamic and multi-layered phenomenon and has become a topic engaging many researchers in a heated debate in recent years. comparisons of student-generated texts with their source texts have shown that students rely on source texts in their writings and copying is a major strategy used by both l1 and l2 writers. in our country a...

We consider the problem of choosing the optimal rate control for a source coder when transmitting lossy-compressed data in real-time over a channel with time-varying rate. Optimality is in the sense of minimizing average distortion. The real-time constraint is formulated as a limited buffer size. Our result is that optimal rate should be piecewise constant and only change when buffer is full or...

Fragment production has been studied as a function of the source mass and excitation energy in peripheral collisions of 35 Cl+ 197 Au at 43 MeV/nucleon and 70 Ge+ nat Ti at 35 MeV/nucleon. The results are compared to the Au+Au data at 600 MeV/nucleon obtained by the ALADIN collaboration. A mass scaling, by A source ∼ 35 to 190, strongly correlated to excitation energy per nucleon, is presented,...

The dependence of the size of the thermal source on the centrality in ultrarelativistic heavy-ion collisions is studied. The interaction region consists of a well defined thermalized core, and of an outer mantle where the production scales with the number of participants. The thermal source builds up in the region with the largest density of participants in the transverse plane. Particle produc...

This paper explores corpus-based bilingual retrieval where the translation corpora used vary by source and size. We find that the quality of translation alignments and the domain of the bitext are important. In some settings these factors are more critical than corpus size. We also show that judicious choice of tokenization can reduce the amount of bitext required to obtain good bilingual retri...

We are concerned with estimating alphabet size N from a stream of symbols taken uniformly at random from that alphabet. We define and analyze a memory-restricted variant of an algorithm that have been earlier proposed for this purpose. The alphabet size N can be estimated in O( √ N) time and space by the memory-restricted variant of this algorithm.

Human number understanding is thought to rely on the analog number system (ANS), working according to Weber's law. We propose an alternative account, suggesting that symbolic mathematical knowledge is based on a discrete semantic system (DSS), a representation that stores values in a semantic network, similar to the mental lexicon or to a conceptual network. Here, focusing on the phenomena of n...

Two-proton correlations at small relative momentum q were studied in the eA(3He,4He,C,Fe)-->e(')ppX reaction at E(0)=4.46 GeV using the CLAS detector at Jefferson Lab. The enhancement of the correlation function at small q was found to be in accordance with theoretical expectations. Sizes of the emission region were extracted, and proved to be dependent on A and on the proton momentum. The size...
